There's a lot worst things going on in Iraq than child marriage laws, just FYI and all.

Anbar has been entirely retaken by ISIS and Baathist elements (US actions in Fallujah and Ramadi were for naught. Let that sink in).

Iraqi girls aren't the only ones at risk in the Islamic world. Pedophilia in regard to boys is culturally accepted in Pashtun areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

I think most people knew going in that this was going to be a waste of time as far as "freeing anyone" or creating a "democracy" in Iraq. There were more important things to consider, like making money for the oil barons and associated contractors.

The majority of uneducated, rural Muslims throughout the Mideast consider this normal.

The upper-class still have their form of arranged marriages, just not children.

And many cases of 'Bride-Burning' are still happening in rural Hindu India.

Very difficult to change cultures that have existed over a thousand years.

And yet, according to the Greeks and Romans, many of our ancestors (well, those of us who hail from Europe north of the Alps) threw the still living wife onto the dead husband's funeral pyre. And yet, we learned to give up such horrendous practices.

My point is that an outside, 'alien' government or culture or religion cannot change a culture, there must be education, enlightenment, change from within.

Reading up on Suttee, it has taken the government of India over a hundred years to stop it, and it STILL occasionally happens.
