*checks date* Hmm, nope it's not April 1st. Just another day in Australian politics!

Quote:
"They must have heaps of cash and they've got to have a package between their legs," she said.

"They don't even need to speak."

Then Jamie, a 22-year-old listener, rang in to say he'd be happy to go out with the 43-year-old.

Sadly this represents the intellectual level of most political discourse in Australia.

This would be a Palmer United Party senator.

This could also describe your typical US politician.

there is a cuteness and feistiness in her that makes her kind of endearing. she is crude to be sure but crude is the basis of all honest thought.

there is not much to discuss in australia at the moment except for the boat people and the carbon tax. one can trawl both those topics until they are spent, and then there is room for improvisation.

the fact that australia is gripped by such an insignificant radio interview shows that life is so easy down here that we are not paranoid in any way or looking over our shoulders to wonder if anyone has us in their sights like most northern hemispherical people do.

the news in other countries is so serious and pressing. here we have the liberty of relaxing and being daft.

I saw that interview, and picked my jaw off the carpet. It might be expected from Sheryl from Western Boganville, but a politician ? Seriously?

As Stannis has said she represents the level of respect that people hold for politicians, I don't doubt that her approval rating among the Hoi polloi will increase after this.

For those who are not aware she is part of a small voting bloc who hold balance of power in the senate.

This woman is still an intellectual giant compared to Pauline Hanson.

Did anyone read this piece from The Sydney Morning Herald?

http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/ ... 3cd2e.html

How do you think this incident compares with the earlier incident with Tony Abbott's winking?

Double standards or two different things?

She's an idiot.

Abbott's wink highlighted his lack of empathy and tact, and the callousness with which he regards the plight of people in dire circumstances. The whole thing might have been calculated to reassure big business that he wasn't going to let his catholic upbringing influence him into doing anything positive for the poor and disenfranchised, and that he was rather the kind of guy that could always be relied upon to put the interests of his donors ahead of the public interest.

V You'll notice that he seems to be making calculated faux pas here. for example, his, "s**t happens" remark echoes Dick Cheney's which was made under similar circumstances. Furthermore, his slips (suppository of all wisdom..) are oddly reminiscent of Bushisms. Abbott was a Rhodes scholar. Why does he represent himself as a moron? Why does he (apparently) imitate W's monkey-man gait? Why does he have a haircut like a five year old?

I tend to disagree, I disliked Hansons political position but I don't think even she was quite the bogan this one is.
