The scary part is there is a 12% chance of a bad solar flare hit within the next 10 years

We'd survive. Seems like the whole things a little blown up. Sure things would get exciting for a few weeks, but we'd adapt and move on. It wouldn't put us back to the dark ages because the knowledge is there. At worst we'd be more careful next time because it caught us out once.
