looks like either a sink hole or a gas explosion/burst.

Plenty of these happen near oil fields. That one looks darn big though.

Anna Kurchatova from the Sub-Arctic Scientific Research Centre, thinks the crater was formed by a mixture of water, salt and gas igniting an underground explosion, a result of global warming.
Gas accumulated in ice could have mixed with sand beneath the surface, and then mixed with salt.
Some 10,000 years ago this area was a sea. Global warming may have caused an 'alarming' melt in the under-soil ice, released gas and causing an effect like the popping of a Champagne bottle cork, Ms Kurchatova suggests.

It is where the "Predators" have made a tunnel going down to a long buried ancient Aztec temple. It is time for them to test their manhood by fighting "Aliens" inside the temple.

On the other hand, it is likely just an explosion of gas, which has been liberated due to global warming and BOOM. It has been predicted for many years that global warming will trigger the release of massive amounts of methane that are dissolved in the tundra of these sort of regions. It was also predicted that a tipping point may eventually be reached where so much methane gets released into the atmosphere that global warming goes into overdrive and becomes a runaway process, leaving a wake of devastation to all life on the planet as global temperatures soar.
