In many articles, Malala, the Afghan campaigner for female public education has stated that she feels that she is not ready for the Nobel Peace Prize, so therefore the Nobel Commitee should listen to her and wait until they feel she is ready to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. However, the Nobel Commitee should consider creating a new category in her honor; the Nobel Prize For Education.

Snowden is just a self-centered d-bag who got his wish by making a name for himself. BTW, that's just my opinion of Snowden.

Therefore, I'm predicting Pope Francis to be the winner for the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize.

Who do you think should win this year's Nobel Peace Prize?

It could be worse. According to the Raw Story article, Vladimir Putin is rumored to be on the list to win this year's Nobel Peace Prize.

The pope represents Christ, and no earthly committee can rightly bestow an honor on the pope. I hope Pope Francis does not get this prize because I fear that, in his naïvite, he will accept it, which would demean his office.

I would give the prize to a person of low estate who is sacrificing much personally for the advancement of human rights. I would not give it to a world figure.

Haha! Actually, Putin would be a great choice considering what a joke the prize has become anyway. If I ever were to win the prize (daydreaming....) I would accept it for the money, then at my acceptance speech, say I'm taking the money to help my cause and selling the gold medal as well, because while the money has value, the prize itself has none.

the pope (before he was pope) was involved in the cover-up of children being raped by priests and hasn't done much to remedy that. i don't see him being a good candidate, either, though i do appreciate his taking a stance on the evil of income inequality.

I'll give the Nobel peace prize to Snowden, just to ridicule the NSA, and a guy who dates strippers and who is a total f**k up always gets my respect. Giving it to the pope is a bad idea, religion and the imaginary friend (god) need to be kept away has far as possible from it.
The peace prize has became such a joke that they are capable of giving it to Isis.

I really want to see Snowden get it, surveillance has gotten out of control, and he's done more to open the world's eyes to it than anyone, at great personal cost.

I'd rather see Snowden thrown into prison.

Why that? Aren't democracies suppose to be transparent? Should have Snowden not have said anything and we the people not knowing the reality?
For me Government decide to play the game of keeping stuff a secret, but when they get busted to bad, they lost! And lose the trust of the people. I see Snowden has a modern day hero. Just my humble opinion.

There is nothing surprising about the NSA using the capabilities that were already generally known or suspected.

It's kind of like robbing a bank to prove that bank robberies occur.

I agree with Eric76. Many people don't seem to have realized that the NSA surveillance techniques were established well before Obama became president.

Agreed. Edward Snowden and Julian Assange are heroes fighting for truth and transparency.

Most people in Edward Snowden's position would've kept their mouths shut, lived comfortably off NSA paychecks, and convinced themselves that violating people's privacy is okay. He sacrificed a career and life that most young people can only dream of in order to stand up for the rights of the people.

I'm pleased that Snowden is being considered for the Nobel Peace Prize. He has my support all the way.

I just wonder, do you accept that the NSA or any other agencies (for those living elsewhere in the world) spy on you on a daily basis? All that in the name of security?
Are you willing to accept to lose some of your freedoms just to get a little security? I'm not, I prefer living in a world with a higher risk of a bomb being set off than losing only 1inch of freedoms, and if we get attacked, then we answer back to the attacks with more freedoms, more rights... After all those attacking us hate us for your freedoms, and when the states put more surveillance on the people, take away freedoms to protect us, it's basically what the enemy wants. And so far they are winning. If what I'm saying makes any sense?
So yes, Snowden and Assange are modern day heroes.

It should be Snowden but it will be Pope Francis because he's the politically correct answer.

I'd go for Pope Francis, but Snowden is a good man in my opinion. I can understand the NSA spying to a certain degree, but for the regular person who does nothing wrong and just lives their life, I don't like the spying then.
