Holy Lovecraft! This sounds like the Elder Things from At The Mountains Of Madness, who came to earth from some even older planet, resembling both plant and animal life, and created life here before there was any!
Well, you know, some people who take Lovecraft a little too seriously (or is it we who don't take the Sage of Providence seriously enough?) who say he was actually a "cosmic tuning fork," receiving messages from... BEYOND! 8O 8O 8O 8O
Actually, HPL would have laughed his ass off at such a notion about himself, but he would certainly have been fascinated that his fiction had guessed at the even earlier origin of life.

Absolutely fascinating. Look forward to reading more. It's really amazing what we don't even know that we don't know until someone points it out to us...
