Wow.

All my extended family lives in Florida. I don't know how they ever feel safe there. The crime stories that come from there are about the worst I ever hear.

some people can't take a joke. they need to lock him up and throw away the room.

Great how in the States they can sell guns to anyone, including complete idiots or psychopaths. Sometimes I wish I could move to the UK where guns are really taboo (there are many Canadians who carry firearms, including the police, contrary to the popular myth, although it's still not something I have to worry about much I mostly have to worry about the cars because people here seem to drive like they're all DUI even during the day). Also I read that in the UK people religion is not a very big deal, even if they celebrate Christmas and other holidays and the public schools look like the posh private schools seen over here.

My parents went on a trip to Florida a few years back. I'm going to be twice as worried if they go there again.

That's only true for the Christians. The many many Muslim immigrants feel differently.

According to the link, the guy was already a convicted felon, so his gun was possessed illegally in the first place, and this happened during a night of binge drinking, not just randomly in the street, so you're probably safe if you avoid taking shots with violent felons.
