video clip from CBC

The shooter is still at large.

Quote:
The shootings in the heart of the normally placid Canadian capital came two days after a hit-and-run crash in a small Quebec city that killed one Canadian soldier and injured another. The authorities consider it an act of terrorism.

Androbot's synopsis:

Shooting started at 10:00. Multiple gunmen in 3 locations so far. One has been shot dead, the others are at large.

There are three sites of shooting so far: at the National War Memorial, the Parliament Buildings and the Rideau Centre shopping centre.

Police are going door to door after one shooter was witnessed carjacking a vehicle.

No public statement yet.

I don't know how I can express my frustrations with this without sounding like a prejudice idiot, so I'm going to say nothing in that regard.

The people that do this crap need to be caught and punished.

A good chunk of the downtown section here in Ottawa is on lockdown and traffic getting into Quebec is really slow and long (bridge closures occurred earlier in the day, but are open now). There is said to be a shooter or suspect still out there. I came straight home after work rather than head to the gym.

I don't think they're 100% sure how many shooters there were. They may be searching for someone who doesn't exist.

They aren't sure. They figure its best to not take their chances and take the city out of lockdown when there might be someone still around.

Also, the guy killed is from the same city as me

I work in downtown Ottawa one block from the National War Memorial. Spend most of yesterday locked down in our bldg and told to stay away from the windows. We we were evacuated at 3pm by our own internal security personnel after clearance from the RCMP.

The soldier was on sentry duty standing watch over the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He was a Army reservist from Hamilton and was only 24 and has a young son. I feel so bad for the soldiers family.

I just cannot comprehend any idiot who thinks it's OK to run around killing innocent people. As much as I hate violence, I am glad the Sergeant-at-Arms at the parliament bldgs used his sidearm to put the killer down.

Sad days here in Ottawa. Lots of very upset people, myself included.

just goes to show how devastating technology can be in the wrong hands, with ISIS and their rallying calls rippling through the internet, tragedy in some of the most unexpected places.

sorry this happened so close to you.
