Jerry Seinfeld, a longtime autism activist, has stated he believes himself to be on the spectrum.

Color me cynical.

Jerry has more than enough $$$$ to get a formal diagnosis. Being introverted and bad with social situations does not equal Autism.

I have a friend who bounces his leg when he is nervous in public settings, and told me he thought it was a stim, and all this other stuff.

I sent him to who diagnosed my husband, and the psychologist told him he was not anywhere on the spectrum, and Web MD is a dangerous thing. Lol...

God bless Jerry for raising awareness, but I get tired of the whole I asked Dr. Goggle and I have xyz.

I'm not the only person skeptical of his claim.

It would be good for all of us if Jerry Seinfeld is autistic. Jerry Seinfeld is cool so he could make autism cool too.

I think he's taking people's skepticism about him having autism too personally, and so is backing down from his own self observation. But how many of us Aspies have been told that we don't seem really autistic? I think he should have sought a professional diagnosis in order to settle the matter.

I know dan ackroyd got a dx [his wife donna Dixon insisted upon it] and settled it long ago. still to me, both ackroyd and Seinfeld [as well as Darryl Hannah] seem so high-functioning [in fact passing for fully functional NT for many years] to me as to make their respective aspergers suspicions [or dx's] seem somewhat less urgent, IOW IMHO it was closer to being an abstract concern for them rather than a practical and existential concern, IOW they didn't need the dx in order to qualify for social services help more than for their peace of mind.

Of course, we all know Akroyd and Hannah through their movies, and public appearances, but never for who they really are. Daryl Hannah has since described herself in private life as painfully shy and anxious, early on almost extinguishing her career before it ever started because she often hadn't been able to bring herself to appear for casting calls and interviews. But that's the magic of acting that she and the others have been able to capture: pretending to be someone who they are not.

can somebody in the lower half of social/cognitive functioning still act in the first place? I know I can't. :oops:
