Michael Brown's family condemned Saturday's slayings.

"We reject any kind of violence directed toward members of law enforcement. It cannot be tolerated. We must work together to bring peace to our communities," the family said in a statement.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the officers' families during this incredibly difficult time."

The Rev. Al Sharpton -- who is also a target of criticism -- said the Garner family was outraged by the police officers' killings.

"Any use of the names of Eric Garner and Michael Brown, in connection with any violence or killing of police, is reprehensible and against the pursuit of justice in both cases," Sharpton said.
And please remember, these family members never volunteered to take these very public leadership positions.

But they know the devastation of losing a family member. and I guess they're doing the best they can.

I find it disgusting this happened....and you will find I am one of the very first to b*tch about the system, and police brutality yeah that stuff angers me to no end you know. But what was done to these two individuals is absolutely disgusting. I in know way think it justifies any future police brutality and I quite frankly don't want to be connected to some murderer due to being concerned about police brutality. I feel they where just waiting for something to happen...now the media can paint it like the protestors and people concerned about police brutality is the problem, and made this guy do it. Hold on people, it will be a bumpy ride...be prepared to defend your life and the ones you love/care about.

Winter is literally coming, and I don't quite mean in the game of thrones context....if you haven't seen the show look it up and you'll see what I mean maybe. Winter is not only coming within the fantasy of the world of game of thrones, but winter is coming IRL...a figurative winter.

I knew since I was 11, I knew it that humanity would f*** itself ....I bloody knew it and there's nothing I could have done about it, f*** the world. Can I please just hit a rewind button and stay back there... 8O

Sharpton, Holder, Obama, and de Blasio have blood on their hands for stirring this up. You cannot bring Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos back.

They no more have blood on their hands than all these cop supporters have the blood of Eric Garner on their hands.

Liu and Ramos were not guilty of the death of Garner.

Anyone who criticised the NYPD over Garners death are not guilty of the deaths of Liu and Ramos.

Let's maintain a sound understanding of where guilt belongs. But, I suppose it's not as satisfying to bay for the blood of someone who's killed themselves, so you have to find someone else to blame.

Correct. The killer of the two cops was irrational with mental illness, just looking for a cause to kill for.

You're about 24, right? So age 11 would be...2001. I know 9/11 really messed up a lot of people. For me, I realized that we all have to embrace, welcome, and seek death, like the terrorists do. I don't mean plant bombs or fly planes into buildings, but something more fundamental, the fact that death comes to all of us, whether tomorrow or 40 years from now, and we have to embrace it. Religion is mostly all about avoiding death, they'll promise you a wonderful eternity in paradise to paper over the fear of death. What we need to do is embrace death for the sake of death. No matter what you believe comes after, if anything, the fact is that all of us will die. So we need to welcome it into our lives. We need to welcome death as it is, not as a passage into a glorious paradise with legions of beautiful virgins and streets paved with gold and rivers of milk and honey etc. So far, I have yet to find a religion that allows for this, so I'm thinking of starting one.

Why? Why not, instead, rage: rage against the dying of the light?

Were I not a Christian, I would probably be an immortalist transhumanist existentialist...

Do you have any sources to support the claim he suffered from mental illness? It is certainly possible but considering i have yet to see anything that mentions any mental health diagnoses or issues...seems like the typical 'only mentally ill people would commit violent crimes like that' rhetoric. I have various mental illnesses and have no desire to go shoot anyone. It could be he was just a bitter person who got consumed by hate....with nothing to do with mental illness for all anyone knows.

25, and for a while I bought into all the crap about america being so great, 'best nation on earth' a totally innocent victim attacked by evil terrorists...and how our government/military needed to 'defeat terrorism' and all this BS...well not anymore. As for embracing death, I do not think that would be healthy....I've attempted suicide and have been concerned enough I would attempt again to go to the ER twice I think I spend enough time thinking about death and/or ending it. I am not dead so why live as if I am just waiting around for it....might as well try and appreciate this existence while its here since there will be plenty of time to appreciate whatever the hell comes next when the time comes.

I was just going by the description the news reports gave of him - a man with a serious criminal record, and suffering from mental illness.

I only heard of the criminal record bit, but seems like there is never a violent crime where its not assumed the perpetrator had 'mental illness' so I tend to be skeptical since much of the time its just hype and there is no actual evidence the person has mental illness....and it also helps continue stigma against mentally ill.

So yeah guess I wouldn't know if the medias just saying that or if they actually have proof unless I look into it.

Sweetleaf, I think you bring up a heck of a good point. The claim of mental illness is thrown around much too loosely. And I think this does serve to build up a stigma.

When I took an undergrad class on abnormal psychology way back in 1984, one statistic with one exception was that a person with mental illness was actually less likely than a member of the general public to commit a crime. The one exception was a person with paranoid schizophrenia, who was only slightly more likely than the general public. Overall, a person with mental illness is more likely to be victimized, at times because they appear vulnerable, at other times merely because they're more likely to live in poverty.

This clown who shot and killed Officer Lui and Officer Ramos sounds like the classic abusive boyfriend. He had first shot his girlfriend in the stomach. Did he at least call 911 before taking off? Probably not. Probably someone else who heard the shot called. This clown was an all-around jerk and then some.
