no matter what is decided in those rarified echelons beyond reality, this aspergler [sounds better than it looks ] will continue to refer to himself as having Asperger's syndrome, in honor of the man.

Have they quantified the diagnostic criteria for each category? Looks like most Aspergians or Asperglers (that's a cute one Auntie) might fit into either the first or last listed grouping...

Important to note is also that Asperger's is not listed anymore under the "Inclusions" or "Synonyms"

The definition of autism spectrum disorder in the current beta version is:

"Autism spectrum disorder is characterized by persistent deficits in reciprocal social interaction and social communication, and by a range of restricted, repetitive, inflexible patterns of behaviour and interests and sensory sensitivities that may change in character during development. These deficits are usually a pervasive feature of the individual’s functioning in all settings, although they may vary in degree according to the social or educational context. In many cases development is abnormal in infancy, although this may only become evident in retrospect. Symptoms usually emerge during early childhood, but deficits may not become fully manifest until social demands exceed limited capacities."

It sounds strange to me to say I have mild autism instead of Aspergers. I'll stick with saying I have Aspergers I think

Just out of curiosity, what percentage of people with primary diagnosis of Aspergers are on SSDI because of that diagnosis? Are there any statistics available? People on WP receiving SSDI with primary diagnosis of AS?

I could have really benefited from qualifying for SSI or such when I was in me 20s.

What is it with everyone saying qualify for SSI? If you have a disability you should be on SSDI. SSI is an income based program, not a disability program. Only people who do not have enough work credits to qualify for SSDI or who have SSDI but still below a certain income level receive SSI. It's not too late. I was in mid 50's when I received SSDI.

That probably applies to a lot of people on WP, considering the massive amount of trouble finding and keeping a job. Even at 34, I don't nearly qualify for SSDI, so that's why I talk about qualifying for SSI.
