6 year old to get surgery to avoid bullying

This girl is going to get cosmetic surgery so she doesn't get picked on when she gets older. Not sure how I feel about this. There are other ways to deal with bullies besides changing who you are. And I think she's very pretty the way she is now, but those ears... They are kinda big... But I guess if it turned out well for her mom she should be okay.

I don't see much of an issue with it.

The video keeps skipping to the next one about the NY explosion. Did she get her ears pinned back or something? I dunno why they call it a cosmetic surgery but it's a good way to sensationalize a story just with the title. It's actually a pretty common procedure.

The worrying fact is that kids at school WILL stop bullying her and try to be her friend now. That sets a scary mindset for both the victim and bully.
The victim wrongly learns that: "The bullies are right, I'm a freak and I need to conform to their standards. The burden is on me to change my appearance in order to stop the bullying, but not on them to stop their hurtful words"
The bully wrongly learns that: "Bullying people for their appearance is ok, because it's a means to a justified end of successfully making people see that they need to change themselves. The burden is on people to change things about themselves in order to avoid our derision, not on us to be more accepting"

If I was that girl I wouldn't change a thing. Why give the bullies the satisfaction that their words successfully made me so self conscious of my appearance to the point where I changed it with surgery? The bullies would likely see the change as a positive step (towards making friends etc) when it's anything but, it's sad and it teaches all parties involved the wrong lessons about flaws and acceptance.

Anyway, my nephew had his ears pinned when he was little. Before he even started school. This was back in the 80's. Few parents would want their child to start primary school with flappy ears as it is a guarantee to getting picked here in Belgium really. And it's hard to educate the children if the attitudes that lead to bullying are instilled at home. There is endemic bullying on the work floor in Belgium. Recently there was an article in the paper and a large percentage of teachers are bullied... by the other staff at school

Everybody thinks of Belgium of the land of chocolate full of nice people. It makes me sick. This video shows a little of the real Belgium to me. The girl probably gets picked on for no other reason than being different. This story hit the national news though and the bullies were kicked out of school if I remember rightly

I don't. For some reason the Belgians (Flemish) are more "polite" and formal than the Dutch, but I prefer honesty. Many Dutch people send their kids to school in Flanders so they can learn "discipline", but I wouldn't even subject a cat or dog to that authoritarian crap.
That video makes me want to punch that stupid bully.
