The American Civil Liberties Union filed an amicus brief arguing that hundreds of disabled Americans are killed in police encounters every year. It was filed in support of a mentally ill woman suing police for shooting her five times.

In the case of San Francisco v. Sheehan, Teresa Sheehan argued that police shot her five times even though she was experiencing a “psychiatric emergency.” The US Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the case on Monday....

Police corruption is just getting more and more out of hand. Something needs to be done before everything blows to pieces.

this is the fruit of a national trend of hiring defective people to be policemen. many places will not hire cops whose IQ is one standard deviation beyond the mean. many places hire people who were ex-infantrymen who are trained to see everybody as a potential enemy. this sort of thing is no longer mere dystopian novel scariness, but is happening now.

Yep. Not next election. Not next year. Not tomorrow. Now.

at least close to home, it could see it was the bad cops who were getting promoted to top positions, such as Tacoma TP chief david brame. on last night's "coast to coast," William B. Scott discussed his book, The Permit, a work of fiction based on the real murder of his son Eric by police and its subsequent cover-up. Scott disclosed how Eric, a West Point graduate with an MBA from Duke University, was shot and killed 'High Noon' style outside of a Las Vegas Costco after he got into an argument with a store employee. Eric had legally carried a concealed weapon into Costco (in violation of an un-posted store policy), undercover security notified the police about it and they arrived thinking a crazed person with a weapon was inside the building, he explained. The store was quietly evacuated and as Eric was exiting an anxious and visibly shaking officer issued a series of contradictory orders to him, Scott reported, noting that his son was holding a Blackberry at the time. They mistook Eric's phone for a gun and fired several rounds into him, he said.
Scott revealed the epidemic of police brutality against civilians and how the system protects the bad guys in official positions. According to Scott, an American citizen is eight times more likely to be killed by a cop than an Al-Qaeda terrorist. In addition, a police officer is 130 times more likely to be involved in an act of misconduct than to be killed in the line of duty, he noted. Scott blamed the spread of police brutality to the emergence of a generation called the Thirteeners (born between 1961-1980), who were raised on video games which may have wired their brains to shoot first rather than using non-lethal methods to diffuse a situation. Scott estimated that around 2 to 4 percent of police officers in a typical precinct qualify as rogues or bad cops. The good officers in Las Vegas, where his son was killed, estimate the percentage of rogues there at 25 to 30 percent, he said. Scott suggested the system can pollute even the good ones as it "doesn't matter what a cop does... he knows he's going to get off," as the systemic conspiracy of silence among the thin blue line will protect him no matter what.

I believe that there are NO "good cops" because a good cop would report the actions of the bad cops around him or her. I don't know of a single good cop reporting the actions of a bad cop. This doesn't mean that I blame officers without proof, but I do doubt them until proven otherwise.

the blowback is coming, a critical tipping point is rapidly approaching. when people en masse cease to trust them, they become a mere occupying force and not a police force. cops are starting to be targeted nationwide. if the police don't [of their own volition] reform their own ranks NOW, they will be reaping a whirlwind of pitchfork brigades. follow the money to see who they really "protect and serve."

It is happening, but I would resist that kind of action. Noncompliance is historically the only way to go. The people still smiling at the end of their day want a civil war to kick off their suspension of the Constitution and declare martial law. If that happens, the end game begins. I just wish that good officers would report their bad officers. Still, I suspect that the good officers would respond with the help of many citizens if needed.

We outnumber them.

we outnumber them SO FAR.... keep in mind the words of jay gould, who said "I can hire one-half of the working class, to kill off the other half of the working class." that is still possible nowadays with the modern goulds abounding in the concrete financial canyons of America. we have met the enemy, and he is us. America is "dog eat dog." maybe we were doomed from the beginning.

What's even more sad is a lot of the time it is some concerned family member or friend that calls the police who then go on to murder the sick person in question, it seems like it is best avoiding calling the police at all costs unless you personally are in real danger since it is just inviting trouble and potentially violence into the situation. How can a meathead thug honestly help a person in crisis? Maybe they just kill your dog if your lucky in that situation. Cops do not protect and serve the American people, they protect and serve the interests of the pharmaceutical/prison/military industrial complexes.

There are no such thing as good cops, good cops would be someone who upholds the constitution and acts morally(arresting somebody for a plant and selling them into slavery is about as immoral as you can get) The good cops who do make waves more often than not see themselves getting snuffed out in one way or another. The problem is the entire system, the institution, there cannot be good cops when the law they uphold is so immoral and evil.

so it is resolved then, that they have in many places in america, become a de facto occupying army whose sole purpose is to cow the populace into submission of the 1%'s wishes. at this point in the end game, is it reversible?

Many of these cases are undoubtedly suicide by cop.

If people feel so badly for the poor, disabled people in this country, then what are so many of them homeless and wandering the streets?

If the cop-haters would turn their attention to actually helping and protecting homeless and disabled people, there would likely be fewer killings of homeless and disabled people.

But no, you do nothing until one of them gets shot, and then you march, riot, vandalize, loot, and bait the police to shoot you, as well.

Meanwhile, the homeless are still homeless, and the disabled go without care and protection.

Pathetic.

I would probably feel much better if people with mental problems weren't using cops to kill themselves.

Even if that were true, the suggestion implies foreknowledge by the officers to "play along" with the suicide, thereby serving willingly as homicidal actors by proxy. If so, what does that say about the ethics and morals of the law-enforcement industry, particularly when both suicide and homicide (even if conspired with others) are prohibited in most states? Oh, yes, it gets immunity from it all. I think we just dug the hole a little deeper. :?
