he had to publically retract that his aircraft was shot down. what was he thinking? why did he have to tell this yarn in the first place? what about that sergeant major who supposedly was a party to this? what is going on? is he finished? tom brokaw seems to think so.

This is rather ironic for me as I used to tell my mother-in-law I didn't like Brian Williams. My reason being that I thought he presented the news in such a way as to upset the viewer as much as possible.

I know we aren't supposed to say these things, but it does seem that some NTs are very comfortable with lying. They seem to have a set of rules that govern when it's OK. They can look you straight in the eye and tell you a lie that suits their purpose. Maybe I somehow sensed that and it was the my real reason for not liking him.

But I never wished for him to experience public humiliation.

He's a journalist, not a reporter. A reporter reports facts and events. A journalist goes for the emotional content.

Reporter: "Our plane landed at 08:30. There were no incidents."

Journalist: "We're taking fire! The pilot is taking evasive maneuvers! There is debris in the aisle! Women are screaming and children are crying! The man next to me is praying! I don't know how this is going to end! Oh? We're down? It's only eight-thirty, and I have five minutes left to record ..."

so that means he's a drama wh*re? where were his bosses during all of this? he couldn't have deceived all of them. somebody somewhere had to know something. I wonder if this will all somehow "blow over"?

Don't blame the bosses. They know that "If it bleeds, it leads" means higher ratings, thus more profit and higher pay. So they not only condone the behavior, they encourage it!

Good point.

But do you blame wolves for being carnivorous, or the sky for being blue? Those producers are so badly deluded regarding their methods, that they think focussing on emotional content is the only way to report the news - they simply don't know any better!

That's also why I watch they news only for weather reports, and I get my news reports online, from foreign news outlets, or from other amateur radio operators in other countries. There's just something beneficial about getting news from people who have no vested interest in the emotional content.

Broadcast and published news reports are now legally entertainment and are allowed to include provable lies https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane_Akre .

Unlike Brian Williams at NBC, Aker and Wilson resisted an order to lie by their employer, a Fox Broadcasting Company station WTVT in Tampa, Fla.

I haven't watched, listened to or read mainstream media in more than 10 years.

It's PTSD. Ever since the time Brian agreed to go for a nice summer drive with Franz Ferdinand, he just hasn't been the same.

And did you diagnose this yourself, or did you read it on a billboard somewhere?

I was there, man. My cousin Gavrilo was showing me around the city when suddenly he reached into his pocket and the craziest thing happened. I still have flashbacks.

So you're not being serious, and I can dismiss your claims. Thank you.

I believe that was a stab at levity.
