...to continue recording music under a producer who sexually abused her. This is just sickening. It's absolutely indefensible. What kind of country do we live in, where a rapist can just countersue his victim and ruin her career?

I believe you forgot the word 'allegedly' in there.

What kind of person signs a contract forbidding them from singing without permission?

Ke$ha says she was sexually abused, and I believe her. You might not believe her, but I do. I'm going to respect Ke$ha's story and not water it down with weasel words.

So she's contractually obligated to the man who sexually molested her.

What are you going to DO about it?

I think she'll find better reasons to make music. Private interests have no legitimate claim to creativity in others.

Allegedly is not a weasel word. Are you going to offer the same respect to her producer, and not water down his story?

It's posts like this that make me dread ever having to face 12 people selected at random.

Come to think of it ... what evidence is there that the producer sexually molested her?

Belief proves nothing, neither do suspicion, accusation, emotionalism, or popularity of the alleged victim

Let me think about it... mmm, nah.

"Alleged" is just a polite way of calling someone a liar. It's the written equivalent of a raised eyebrow.

Do you really think being the defendant in a criminal trial is comparable to being a victim of crime? Do you think being judged by a panel of jurors is equivalent to being raped by your employer? Your fears do not trump hers.

I agree. Aside from the sexual abuse, I think this really just shows the problem with America's corporate culture. Nobody should be able to just buy someone's basic human rights and freedom of expression. This is essentially slavery.

Do you want to rephrase that? Because it kind of sounds like you're gloating.

Not exactly; it's just stating that there is no conclusive evidence yet: it's her word against his and, regardless of her popularity, "alleged" is a fair word to use, at least untill a judge has had his final say

Yes, it is.
If someone would accuse me of sexual assault, which i did not commit, and those 12 jurors think like you, i'd be convicted of a crime i didn't commit: making me the victim

i think noone thinks this, but then again: the assault is still only suspected; rape isn't even certain (sexual assault =/= rape, although the reverse does)

well, Key$ha did voluntarily sign a contract; making it valid.
Indeed, noone should be able to "just buy" these rights, but everyone is allowed to sell their own, which is basically what happened

Not changing anything. I really want to know what people intend to DO about something that THEY seem to gloating over.

I usually just yawn in church. Although buying a round of drinks is also an effective attention-getter.

Being convicted of a crime is not comparable to being raped. Quit beating this tired-old false equivalence.

izzeme wrote:

There's no contract in the world that can entitle someone to rape. I seriously hope you're not trying to rationalize what happened.

Disgustingly sexist comment. You think women like the attention they get for filing rape charges? Of having their sexual history scrutinized, and having people comment on what they were wearing or how many drinks they had, because it just has to be framed as their fault somehow? I don't know a single woman who would enjoy that kind of attention, and neither do you. You must have zero empathy.

If their is no evidence then Kesha will probably pay a monetary sum to break this contract. Accusations don't nullify contracts.
