Jim Carrey's anti-vaccine rant

Even ten years after Jim Carrey broke up with Jenny McCarthy, he still believes all of her anti-vaccine crap! He was ranting on twitter yesterday about how pissed off he was about California's new vaccine law.

I'm against a lot of mandatory vaccines, but not because of autism. They don't cause it. I never had a vaccine and I have AS and am professionally diagnosed too. I think too many vaccines for the small things that don't usually cause lasting harm will ruin our immune systems. That is my opinion though and I don't expect everyone to go along with it. The Chicken Pox vaccine went too far IMO. It's a harmless childhood disease and I think that preventing small illnesses like that will make us more susceptable to the big ones. It's not a scientific opinion, but it's what I feel.

Keeping yourself unvaccinated is dangerous to others. I highly suggest you get all the vaccines you should have gotten by this point in your life, so that you don't continue to put others at risk.

Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary defines "rant" as "to talk loudly and in a way that shows anger." Putting aside the fact that the volume of one's voice cannot be determined through text, the rest of the definition applies here. Jim Carrey was conveying anger through the things he said about vaccines, so therefore, he was ranting. So why is it so wrong to call him out on that?

(Also, are you anti-vaccine? If so, then why? Do you not realize how dangerous it is to refuse to vaccinate yourself and/or your children?)

Me, too. Same with Polio, Rubella, Tetanus, Diptheria, and Measles. I want the population of this country to stay immunized against all of those diseases, which is why I highly support enforced vaccinations.

This makes me really sad. I used to like him and his comedy. (Well, most of his comedy. Sometimes his gross-out humor went a bit too far for my liking.) But ever since he met Jenny McCarthy, it seems like he's been brainwashed by her complete lies and misinformation about vaccines. Even though they're not even married anymore, he still takes everything she says as gospel. I really wish he could research this issue with an open mind, and see what the actual facts say. Because the facts show that vaccines are beneficial.

Again, talking without asking questions can make you look silly. If I got them now, I would die. I'm allergic to most vaccines, hence the reason I didn't get them as a child. Not everybody does or thinks things for the nefarious reasons you believe they do.

Unvaccinated kids can spread measles to babies who are too young to be vaccinated, who would have, eventually, which can cause life threatening complications.

Pertussis is another terrible illness to contract. It causes these horrible sounding coughs which I am sure would scare any parent if their baby started having the whooping coughs, where the disease gets its nickname.

Same, can't wait for the next Spanish Flu to hit. It'll be a real mess

There's a vaccine for every little thing now. Cervical cancer is caused by an infection, so some big company made a vaccine that causes horrible side effects for some people, but the docs keep pushing it. 14 or 15 yo teens who want to sow their wild oats should use a "love glove" if they don't want to get sick. I wonder if these weird food allergies that exist now are the fault of immune systems going crazy due to overly sanitized surroundings. Kids will taste 1/100 of a peanut and drop dead when their throat closes shut from anaphylaxis, do you remember stuff like that happening in the 80s, I sure don't! One girl took a single bite of a brownie that she didn't know contained peanuts, and didn't swallow it, but within 30 min she was dead after her throat closed up.

It's because there's peanuts in everything. I experienced something similar. I stopped eating hamburgers and anything that came from beef cattle and ate mostly turkey cold cuts while a teenager. Within a couple years, I could no longer eat a list of foods treated with the preservatives found in processing turkey coldcuts. The way I limited my diet to meat treated with those particular preservatives was enough for it to cause a pretty bad allergy so I had to stop eating anything containing them. Now I can have stuff like that without experiencing allergies, just not everyday. This is how some people develop them, by a constant bombardment of a certain ingredient. It's just like hay fever. That was around before vaccines. There was a time they didn't put peanuts in everything and that particular food, along with other legumes can be tough. My family is sensitive to certain legumes, although not peanuts, and we have a gene that effects the immune system. linked to such disorders as severe rheumatoid arthritis and Sjögren's Syndrome which my mom has. My Aunt had Parkinson's which recent research has linked to an immune disorder. My Great Grandfather had severe rheumatoid arthritis in his hands. We all have allergies which are linked to this gene.

People that worship vaccines are bowing at the feet of their Big Pharmaceutical god's, do you trust them? I'd get a vaccine if I thought it was in my best self interest but I'm not giving the most evil people in the world the benefit of the doubt. First hand I can tell you there can be serious reactions to almost any type of vaccine, my brother has suffered permanent brain damage and is permanently disabled as a result a reaction he had from I believe DTaP. How about this as a compromise, you can mandate vaccines but the pharmaceutical companies will owe everyone that has a reaction a billion dollars. I would imagine the supply of that drug would dry up really fast, they'd probably have second thoughts about mandating it.

vaccines don't ruin the immune system. vaccines are viruses that are either dead or neutered, but still look real enough to the immune system. preventing small illnesses doesn't leave you open to bigger ones. This isn't how the immune system works

it's not in your best self interest to be a walking disease vector, despite your misinformation about vaccines.
