NBC News just broke-in to programming to announce that the Supreme Court just ruled that same-sex couples have a right, to marry. NBC said that that means that every state that has NOT allowed it, up 'til now, MUST allow it; and, they must recognize those marriages from OTHER states, as well!

Thoughts?

Hopefully now we can move on as a country, gay people shouldn't be thought of as any different than straight.

I don't see how any other decision could have rightfully been made if marriage is seen as a state-sanctioned contract. I do believe this idea could open the door for even more definitions of "marriage."

My concern is that ministers of various religions who hold to a tight definition of marriage not be *required* to officiate at any type of marriage they feel violates their religious convictions. I'm sure that if any state does not put a clause like this into the state law, it will eventually head back to the Supreme Court for further clarification.

Growing up up the 60's and 70's and being called all sorts of anti homosexual slurs(I'm straight but just not being girl obsessed got you those labels) now it seems like I am living in an alternative universe. Just saying gays should not be beaten up was a radically liberal position to take where I grew up and that was in a blue state. If I remember correctly even in the late 80's early 90's gay activists looked down on marriage as a "straight" thing. There is some lesson for the Autistic community in that somewhere. And as recently as 10 or 15 years ago the majority did not want gays as teachers because it was thought they would brainwash the kids.

Now there's no worries about the Supreme Court ruling against all the marriages that occurred since they determined the states could not stop it.

Gay and lesbian persons have the same rights as everyone else.

I support this decision! :D

I am pleased both with the decision, and with the simple fact that a decision has been made.

I imagine there will now be several months of hand-wringing and much playing games of "Ain't It Awful", but I look forward to the day when that eventually calms down and we can just move forward.

Think it's about time the government ease one more civil liberty out of their reign. Even though I personally am not the biggest supporter of the issue I still firmly believe that the government shouldn't have the right to restrict this liberty from members of the LGBT community. Certainly a victory for the advancement of civil equality
