Quote:
TV Land has dumped The Dukes of Hazzard.

The network is confirming that reruns of the 1980s action comedy, with its Confederate flag imagery, have been pulled from the schedule.

This marks the latest effort to banish the racially charged Stars and Bars from pop culture after various states began debating whether to remove the flag.

Warner Bros., which produced the series, last week halted production of toy replicas of the so-called General Lee, the 1969 Dodge Charger stock car driven by rambunctious southern cousins Luke and Bo.

The car famously features a replica of the Confederate flag on its roof.

Retailers including Walmart and eBay have stopped selling merchandise bearing reproductions of the flag.

The Dukes of Hazzard originally aired on CBS from 1979 to 1985.

STOP THIS MADNESS!!

The show will be back. The culture could not survive without some explanation for the origin of the term "Daisy Dukes" which is ubiquitous.

The show had its run, and it is no longer topical or funny. Better to let it fade from memory that to use it as an excuse for more conflict.

It was a silly show but if it was getting the ratings as a rerun on TV Land (or whoever else was showing it) then it should have been kept on the schedule.

It's simple: If the confederate flag on the roof of the General Lee or even the "Dixie" horn offends you then simply don't watch it and the problem is solved.

The only thing offensive I see about it is all the Chargers that were trashed over the years to make that series that would now be collectible classics.

I would still like to know whether or not this series was offensive back when it was originally aired.

I guess back then (1979-85) the liberals were too busy protesting nuclear weapons (well, at least American and NATO nuclear weapons. Not those of thier komrades in the USSR, of course) to take the time to enlighten the black people that they should be offended by a rather kooky TV series featuring a '69 Charger with a confederate flag on the roof.
Just my theory but I bet it's not far off....

Well, there's one MORE thing I find offensive: Some guy who owns one of the originals, is painting-over the confederate flag, with the American flag. Obviously, he can do what he wants, with it----but, why can't he just sell it?

If I had money to throw around I'd buy it from him with the confed flag on top just out of principle.

If I had the money to throw around (and the life-span), I'd buy the damned car and hide it a cave for the next thousand years. Then I would "discover" it, and donate it to some future museum dedicated to useless fetish objects.

Excellent point....the censoring of all images of the Confederate Battle Flag has just made all surviving items

collectible!

EXACTLY----I would, TOO!!

Someone, on some thread, on the WP site, had said that the surest way of guaranteeing that everybody will want something, is to ban it, and he was RIGHT!! I've been reading-around on the Internet, to see if the flag can be bought, ANYWHERE----are you ready, for THIS.....

They're having some kind of festival, here, this weekend, and there was this vendor, with the flags, hats, buckles, etc. He sold, like, 40 flags, in three hours----before the festival, he stood out, in front of his house, and sold, like, 57, in an afternoon.

Then, companies on the Internet: One guy sold 5,000 flags, in 7 days----another one sold 8,000, in 24 HOURS!! I can't find ONE site, where the flag isn't on back-order.

I LOVE IT----I'd be on the waiting list, TOO, if I could afford it!!

I find it ironic that Wal-Mart stopped selling them. The most unprincipled and greedy retailer all the sudden decides to temporarily grow a conscience over a mere flag and screw themselves out of revenue.

If I had a store I'd have them on sale. :D

I still have the toy "General Lee" from the 1980's, with a small "Garfield" figurine behind the wheel. That's gotta be worth something already!
