.....it reach a billion dollars?

http://money.cnn.com/2016/01/08/news/po ... 0-million/ - Normally, I don't post in this forum because it's just loaded with NEGATIVE news (which I am sick of, frankly), but I thought I'd post something non-negative. In the US, the multi-state lottery game Powerball, for its next drawing Saturday (drawings take place every Saturday and Wednesday, BTW), will have an US$800 million jackpot on the line. If there are NO winners for this drawing, the NEXT drawing will have the world's FIRST BILLION-DOLLAR jackpot EVER, which would be historic.

Who cares? The lottery is cursed. It doesn't matter who wins, that money'll be gone by the end of the week either by stupidity or worse.

Anyone who'd spend over a million dollars in a week would have to be a special kind of stupid. If I was to win a massive lottery first thing I'd get is a large house with a large yard or maybe a plot of land...that way I'd be set with a place to live for the rest of my life and if any of my friends and close family needed shelter well it would be a large house. Then maybe I'd invest in the hemp industry, though I am not so sure how investing works but I'd learn.

lol then after that maybe hookers and cocaine....meh well maybe not the hookers, don't need to pay for sex when I have a boyfriend.

Don't forget there's "worse". I have a theory that no average citizen can make more than million dollars (without earning it first) and get away with it. The number of enemies you make in life increase as you climb the socioeconomic ladder even if you didn't knock anybody off to get there. Then, you have people who are above you ready to knock you off and their best men operating to make sure your money is gone and in their pockets. A dollar they don't have is a dollar they will get by any means. From Investment Banksters to con artists, you gotta watch your back.

If someone wins the lottery, the best way to keep the money long term is to live as normally as one did and to not make drastic life changes. Too many winners start spending their money on their material dreams without thinking about what they are doing. It is fine to do that to a point, but within a reasonable budget. Yes, you can get a new house, new car, travel, etc. with that large of an amount but do keep it to a minimum. For example, buy a modest house where you want to live instead of a giant mansion at a far away place that you will never use. It is best to plan this out in advance before making any move at all. The winner needs to get a lawyer on retainer asap before cashing in the ticket, as there is a risk that people will try to sue you over the darnest things because you now have money. The majority of the money should be put into diversified investments, the safer the better. If the financial planning is followed correctly, the person can then live comfortably from the interest earned. Certain states allow for the winner to stay anonymous. If you happen to win in one of those states, keep your identity private for as long as you can. Otherwise, you will be constantly hounded by many people wanting a piece of your lottery pie.

If you are not a good planner, it is best to take the annual payments rather than the one lump sum. That way, you have a guaranteed amount that you will receive of a long time for you to work with. One of my good friends is a cousin to someone who won 30 million in a lottery years ago and gave me this advice from their experiences....

Oh, and yes, I have a plan ready on my side just in case lightning strikes multiple times in the same spot tonight....

And in theory how would anyone know how much money I have? I didn't say it would be that nice of a big house just something sustainable big enough for more than two people and I don't like upscale neighborhoods so it wouldn't be in such a place. I am used to living on just enough to get by and that's with having to live with other people and share rent so I can't imagine what I could possibly spend that much on within a week. I just imagine I'd better be able to afford the things I do spend money on. I would probably learn how to brew mead and get whatever equipment is needed or something as that would be awesome and cheaper than buying it though I plan do to that anyways at some point just will take longer with less money. But yeah I wouldn't suddenly move into upper class yuppieville, and start wearing fancy clothes or go around telling people my financial information. So I don't think it would be all that apparent.

Also I think my credit union is trustworthy enough to deposit money into my account, so I wouldn't just carry around a ton of cash like an idiot or something.

First off, never gamble, even a small amount. The temptation can be too strong. Just fix everything up and such.

Why gamble when you could go to a concert or something, I mean for one who wants to spend time in a casino seems like an obnoxious environment.

The drawing for today, January 9th is over as of the time I am typing this in my time zone, and there are NO winners...... so, here we go! Let's play Who Wants to be a Billionaire? And yes, that's a 'B' as in 'Benjamin'.

"Spain's Sorteo Extraordinario de Navidad (Spanish Christmas Lottery) is generally considered to be the world's largest lottery with the largest first prize/jackpot.

The total prize pool in 2012 was €2.52 billion (US$3.297 billion)." 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O

However, that particular prize pool was distributed amongst thousands of people, not just a few.

Good point! You are certainly correct.

Even if the US Powerball has 3-4 winners it will still be the largest ever.
...but if it has ONE :!: :!: :!: OMFD!! !

Can you imagine a single ticket winner of 1.?? billion USD?!?!?!

I read that one of the Powerball winners remained "Anonymous".
