Quote:
In a series of experiments in mice, researchers found that a common drug used to treat psychiatric illnesses, including autism and bipolar disorder, alters the gut microbial community. Those changes caused the mice to burn fewer calories while resting and gain weight, researchers report in EBioMedicine. The finding, which lines up with weight gain seen in patients, suggests that drugs other than antibiotics can easily mess with a person’s microbes, which in turn profoundly influence metabolism, weight, and overall health.

I didn't need a study on mice to know my meds caused a huge weight gain, screwing with my metabolism, and do other things to me.

We could have spared the mice.

The interesting thing is the effect on the gut microbiome, in so far that the effects of microbiome changes have only been recently acknowledged for having effect on overall health at all.

One reads medical history and has to be surprised about the chauvinism with which doctors used to treat patients, in contrast to their actual understanding of things. Only to realize that those days are far from being over.
Today, they get upset because the patient reads up on his symptoms on the internet and makes demands, or refuses to have, figuratively speaking, a lobotomy performed.

I was on Risperdal and Depakote in the past. They wreaked havoc on my body. I don't take them anymore and had a metabolic blood work thing done and everything was normal.
I used to have terrible eating habits especially while I was on Depakote. Now, thanks to that, I'm scared to eat most of the time but I have to. Some meds suck.
