Here's a pretty good explanation about the underlying case:
http://patterico.com/2016/01/03/what-ar ... rotesting/A lot of that federal land includes national parks, where we all can go to enjoy hiking, camping, and hunting. I've heard of all the cry to privatize those areas so capitalism can run it's course and make everyone rich. The fact is, though, those wild places we all enjoy would be cut off from us as it would be private land, we'd see the end to most of that pristine wilderness for the sake of commercial gain, and federal workers like park rangers, with all their high wages and benefits, would lose their jobs, to be replaced by workers paid a minimum wage. Sure, that doesn't fit the Bundy situation, but the same people who are calling for privatization of public lands also have their eye on national parks.
As for Bundy: as I understand it, all his neighbors had no problem with paying the fees he was bitching about. That, and the courts had continuously ruled against Bundy, but he continuously ignored the judgement and kept breaking the law.
