With the current events in Middle East, any chance kurds get a own country? Should they have a own country?

In the world right know we have 35 millions kurds. Strange that such a big people dont have a country.

Kurdistan already exist, but its a part of 4 diffrent countries: Image

Yes, the Kurds should have their own country. They are the largest ethnic group without their own state. They have been a culture since 700-800 AD... I think. They have their own language. And they have been struggling for independence for decades. Plus, they have been great allies to the US and their coalition, and they are tough against ISIS.

Just how easily are Turkey and the other states going to let them go?

As they are a pro-western population in the Muslim world who have the balls of titanium to stand up to their religion's extremists, I dare say they could prove to be an invaluable ally. Just that friends like Turkey, and enemies like Iran and ISIS, would fight for every inch of ground to stop it.

So purely on the basis they are now pro-western muslims they should get their own country? You do know the kurdish PKK are using the current conflicts with ISIS to get rid of their prior classification as a terror organisation.

Considering how just about every other country in that part of the world are anti-western, I emphatically say yes.
And while the PKK fits the criteria as a terrorist organization, as they are on the front lines fighting our enemies, I have no problem going easy on them.

I can list plenty of other worthy cases of indigenous peoples who's homelands were incorporated into artificial European colonial boundaries. It strikes me that the only nationalities in the post-communist era to obtain independence are those that opposed communism.

The few exceptions were Bangladesh who'se ethnic Bengali muslims were supported by India when they opposed Pakistan

Kosovo which created a Albanian ethnic based country based and recognized based on their opposition to anti-western Yugoslavia

South Sudan which created a ethnic/religious based country based on their opposition to muslim fanatics in Khartoum.

The proposition for independence is based on i) seeking political support from powerful neighbours and ii) ensuring you are pro-western

Fair enough, but you need to convince the Turks...I doubt they will let it happen...

They should, but Turkey and a whole boat load of others won't let them.

Doesn't Turkey still say the Armenian genocide never happened? Or are they still blaming that on the Ottoman Empire (which still is Turkey)?

Iraq is in meltdown and ISIS has carved out a slice of Syria and Iraq the size of Great Britain that they claim as their country. I think it is possible that the Kurds may take a chunk of northern Iraq as their country. Slim chance but a possibility.

They've certainly been fighting for it long enough.

They might be perceived as being too dependent upon the West, though, should they attain independence.

the turkish govt denies it ever happened, to the extent that it is commonly described. i doubt they're blaming it on anyone, much less their predecessor state.

by the way, why do you bring up the armenians? :?

Armenian-genocide deniers are in the same league as Holocaust deniers.
