I just read in The Daily Kos just what a bunch of phonies these people are. One of them raised donations for the siege, only to slip off to register with a hotel, and go on a drinking binge. While the guy calling himself Vernon Bundy's bodyguard, who had claimed to be a marine, turns out to have never served in any military branch. One of the Y'all Qaeda in Oregon has also made the claim of being an ex marine, only to have been also revealed to be a fraud. Just like that ranching family, the Hammond's, who started this whole ugly, laughable mess, claimed they had started the fire that sent them to prison when trying to clear brush, but in fact had been poaching on federal land, and were trying to cover their tracks. And that claim that the federal land in question was somehow taken from ranchers is equally bullsh*t, as it had been a bird sanctuary, since Teddy Roosevelt's administration! Reminds me of how Randy Weaver had lied about being in Special Forces in Viet Nam - a ridiculous lie that turned into tragedy, because the feds went in with overkill when expecting to be facing a professional killer when in fact he was just a great big phony, which they could and should have checked on. The fact is, these asswipes are just play acting armed radical, and all the feds have to do is walk up and say, "BOO!" and they'll probably run like the scared rabbits they really are.

Of fist fights, drinking problems, and arguments over women and children.
'Em Feds didn't have to do nothing. The militia disintegrated all by itself. You can blame anger management issues, alcohol troubles and some of the men missing their wives for how it all turned out.
Would be pretty funny if it weren't so absolutely sad.

I'd have to assume that you can but, of course, Ammon Bundy and his militia aren't doing so legally.
I hate to see this being linked to anything dealing with Oregon since these people are from out of state and have their own agenda. That and the fact that nobody here wants them here, including the Hammond's. They couldn't give a rat's ass about the Hammond's, they're just using them to go after the Guberment.

The ranchers were convicted under the Anti Terrorism and Death Penalty Act of 1996 - these ranchers are NOT terrorists. Under this law the penalty is 5 yrs in prison and A JUDGE lowered the sentence to one for 3 months and the other a year which the two ranchers served. Then the government comes in and says they didn't serve the right amount of time. What?! Since when can the government do that? THAT'S CALLED DOUBLE JEOPARDY! If anyone should answer to it - it's the judge that sentenced them and he should be the one to do the time.
The ranchers also said they are NOT tied in with Bundy and that Bundy does not speak for them. The militia are totally separate from the ranchers.

That's not double jeopardy. That's called a mandatory minimum sentence. The original judge violated the law by giving them less than the minimum sentence.

Then the judge should do the time and not the ranchers.

1. Are they from the South? Do you think Southerners are stupid?
2. So, they're comparable to al-Qaeda? How many people have they murdered?

His posting history would certainly indicate so.

Y'all Qaeda is the name that that bunch has been tagged with on the internet. No, they're not southerners, but they are rural rubes. And no, I'm not calling all rural people rubes - - just the dumb ones.

What Alex said.
And as Bundy's son is with them, and that they are motivated by the same phony land use cause, I'd say they certainly are connected to him.

Then you agree the judge violated the law and the ranchers shouldn't have to go back to prison?

No, just the purposely ignorant and intolerant ones.
Here we go with the passive aggressive name calling again. Grow up. It's getting old.
