Virginia Tech student kills 13 year old
http://www.wdbj7.com/news/local/blacksb ... d/37735070
As some of you know, I'm a grad student at Virginia Tech. There are several engineering buildings and they are mostly around the sociology building, where I am. The little girl was a local here.
We have actually had several killings here at Tech in the past few years, so I don't blame anyone for having a tainted view of it. There are several other fairly large colleges around here and they don't have the same problem with violence.
It's a really good school, in terms of the programs offered, the professors, and the access to different career paths once you're in here. It's my personal opinion that they go overboard trying to accommodate everyone's diversity, so they don't catch the weirdos when they come in.

Hi SoA----nice to see you!!
I don't have time to read your article, but I've been hearing about this up here, cuz that kid (the male) grew-up about 10 miles +/-, from me, in Columbia. He was a STAR athlete (track), and a good student----what a waste of a "good" kid. I'm waiting to hear about the autopsy, cuz my local news said the little girl wasn't shot-to-death----I'm figuring the usual strangling, or blunt object; but, I'd still like to know.
The girl, his supposed accomplice, is also from Maryland, but I don't know anything about her.

I just found-out she was stabbed to death, and that she met him on a website where teens meet to date, and where people were telling her she was not cute (she was actually VERY cute). She was an easy target; I'm sure he told her everything she wanted to hear----soooooo very sad.....

Hey Cat!
Yeah there's a lot to read up on. I can give you the quick run down.
What you already said are most of the facts that were released. There is unofficial but fairly solid information that the killer was communicating with her using a profile where he was wearing a full mask and saying weird dark things like horror movie kind of stuff. He was communicating with her on that KiK thing for at least 9 weeks before he killed her. The female VT student's charges have been upgraded to accessory before AND after the fact, and the unofficial information is that she also knew about this for weeks ahead of time. The unofficial information also says the little girl was not sexually assaulted before she died. But if they knew each other for that long, who knows all that happened.
The unofficial information is coming from a local investigative reporter who broke another local injustice case that was later found to be true. He was let go from his news organization (I think) because he was not supposed to report on the case, since it involved a local public figure. Some of the other information is still out there because the little girl's social media has not yet been shut down.
The little girl was also suicidal and was communicating with "catfish" type pages of "boys" (looks like men) who were obviously trying to use her for inappropriate means. Probably not obvious to a 13 year old. Really, really sad.
Such a terrible and depressing story.
The nexus of sex and violence in our species is such a huge problem.
People ignore the mythology of Evil at their peril, I think.
It doesn't have to be a true explanation to be an accurate pointer to a pervasive problem.

More on the girl:

(If you can't access it, try deleting the "mailsignout" tag.)
13 years old with multiple health problems, bullied at school because of her scars, probably going through puberty and thus vulnerable to finding a "boyfriend" online without understanding the risks. I hope that the cops dig through the messages between her and the killer to see if there was any "sexting" or other inappropriate messaging.

@ SoA: Oh, God, that's so sad, even depressing, that she experienced all that. I saw the mom reading a statement and crying, and then not able to continue with her statement. I'll never understand, for the LIFE of me, why parents let their kids get on social media, without supervision. I know they can do it on their phones; but then, they should only have really cheap, "talk only" phones.

I thought I'd update this story since some more stuff came out. The unofficial information that was going around turned out to not be true.

The two VA Tech students planned the little girl's murder. Possibly at a "Cook Out" restaurant. The young man led the 13 year old away from her window, because his fingerprints were on her windowsill (creepy). The young woman said she wanted to be involved in something "special" and that was why she was involved. She watched the young man kill the little girl and then they drove around for some time before finally deciding to dump her body near where the young man's grandparents lived. They tried to bury her in the snow, hoping that she wouldn't be found for awhile.
She went back and told her roommates, who of course were horrified and immediately reported it. On campus, if you call 911, it goes to the VA Tech cops, not regular cops, so that's why you might read about the campus cops being the ones who reported it to the local police. The young woman kept the little girl's Minions blanket in her room in a suitcase.
VA Tech is apparently getting offended that we're being known as a dangerous school. I personally have never felt safe there. You're discouraged from talking about it if you think someone is creepy or if you don't feel safe. That in and of itself has always bothered me.
