Quote:
Eagles founder Glenn Frey has died.

The band's website posted the news late Monday under the heading, "It Is With The Heaviest of Hearts That We Announce ..."
and then continued "...the passing of our comrade, Eagles founder, Glenn Frey, in New York City on Monday, January 18th, 2016.

Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia.

The Frey family would like to thank everyone who joined Glenn to fight this fight and hoped and prayed for his recovery.

Words can neither describe our sorrow, nor our love and respect for all that he has given to us, his family, the music community & millions of fans worldwide."

Frey was 67.

Geez-a-LOO, what is going-on in the Entertainment World? This is, like, the sixth celebrity to die in, like, 2 weeks----and, I'm still not over / am terribly saddened by Alan Rickman dying.....

The giants of classic rock are now each kicking the bucket one by one. Bowie, Glenn Frey, and who is next?

Each of the members of Beatles, and the Stones, were born while London, and Liverpool were being blitzed in the middle of the war which ended 70 years ago. So its actually time for they and their contemoraries to start passing away. Not that I like it, but its to be expected. :(

Another dark day for rock music. RIP Glenn! I enjoyed his solo career in addition to his career with The Eagles. Love "The Heat is On," "The One You Love," and actually, quite a few album cuts. It will be weird listening to The Eagles nowadays without Glenn around.

Yes, I don't know what's going on with entertainment, but we are losing WAY too many legends at once. First Natalie Cole, then David Bowie, and now Glenn Frey. So sad. :(

For anyone who wants some Eagles nostalgia, I highly recommend the "History of the Eagles" documentary. Documentaries can rarely hold my attention, but these guys really had a pretty amazing ride.

RIP

Too much to deal with at all at once.

Yep----look who else is turning 70, this year:

Diane Keaton (January 5)
Cher (May 20)
Sylvester Stallone (July 6)
Bill Clinton (August 19)
Oliver Stone (September 15)
Ben Vereen (October 10)
Suzanne Somers (October 16)
Pat Sajak (October 26)
Steven Spielberg (December 18)
Patti Smith (December 30)

These turned 70, last year:

Deborah Harry
Stephen Stills (Crosby, Stills, and Nash)
Rod Stewart
Eric Clapton
Bob Seger
Pete Townshend
John Fogerty
Anne Murray
Carly Simon
Van Morrison
Jose Feliciano
Neil Young (Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young)
Bette Midler

These, in 2014:

Raquel Welch
Paul McCartney
Patrick Stewart

Strangely, most of those that have died recently, were in their 60s----except for Wayne Rogers, who was, shockingly, in his 80s.

I've loved the Eagles for years. Glenn will be missed.

Sorry, I started a separate thread on the arts and music board not realising there was one here. As with Bowie, I was quite shocked with the news about Frey.

Back in Seventies I mostly listened to hard rock:Who,Stones, Zeppilin. The Eagles seemed like only muzak. But one day I was browsing in some small store with an unusually clear sound system for its piped music (the little shop was quiet so I could hear each word of the lyrics), and found myself getting hooked on the soap opera saga contained in the song "Lyin' Eyes", and I suddenly became an Eagles fan.

Later I dated a divorced lady who said that (like every couple) she and her ex had a "special song". And that that song was "Lyin' Eyes". She said that "should have been danger sign right there! If your 'special song' is Lyin Eyes your marriage must be headed for the rocks." Lol!

I am both an Eagles fan and CCR fan. Sorry, but I like CCR a lot and I like the Eagles a lot, and I don’t think that makes me a bad person. They are both country rock. I think the members of CCR were cool as were the members of the Eagles. But I do enjoy Hotel California as the best song and album Glenn Frey and Don Henley ever wrote. It does not really matter to me. They both are very good groups. But if you are a musician and want to get some of that anger out your body CCR is the way to go. If you want to play softer music, play The Eagles.

Dale Griffin the drummer for Mott The Hoople also died yesterday. He was also 67 and was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2009.
