Iraq just can't catch a break. Little Hitler is responsible for this as well, the damn was built in the 80's during his reign on Gypsum of all minerals to help consolidate his power.

What can one say?

That's terrible!

As depraved and evil as ISIS is theyve only managed to murder a few thousand people (Boca Haram in Nigeria has killed more people, and so has the Assad dictatorship).

But by forcing the staff of the dam to flee (before the Dam was recaptured) ISIS will accidently cause a million people to die- apparently!

ISIS really did a number to the place. About as serious as it gets.

“We used to have 300 people working 24 hours in three shifts but very few of these workers have come back. There are perhaps 30 people there now,” Adamo said in a telephone interview from Sweden, where he works as a consultant.

“The machines for grouting have been looted. There is no cement supply. They can do nothing. It is going from bad to worse, and it is urgent. All we can do is hold our hearts.”

At the same time as the bedrock is getting weaker and more porous, the water pressure on the dam is building as spring meltwater flows into the reservoir behind it. Giant gates that would normally be used to ease the pressure by allowing water to run through are stuck.

I feel it important to point out that we'd been working with "Little Hitler" since the 1950's and to a fair degree, put him in power. Then we supported his regime throughout the 80's. Our cozy relationship with him didn't end until 1990 & the invasion of Kuwait.
