Cory Bernardi, a conservative minister in the Australian government has pressured our prime minister Malcolm Turnbull to remove anti-bullying protection for gays, lesbians and transgender children and adolescents.

Prime minister Turnbull has been forced (due to homophobic elements in his party) to review whether initiatives set out to protect vulnerable children exposed to bullying in school has caused parents of school children to be uncomfortable about exposing their children to knowledge of homosexuality. Apparently some parents are "aghast" that their little darlings should be educated about bullying homosexuals (who by the way have the highest suicide rates in Australia)

As a result of his callous actions Bernardi's electoral office got trashed

Just deserts...

New Zealand seems so much more tolerant of people who are different. Looks like there's a literal ocean of difference between Australia and NZ!

I am not familiar with Austrailian politics but I saw nothing about relaxing anti bullying policies. He thought the LBGT lessons were bad and bieng taught at to young an age.

How ironic that Bernardi's office was vandalized. I suspect he will seek the same legal protections for himself that he advocates prohibiting to LGBT citizens.

What Bernardi specifically objects to is teenagers being exposed to the concept that transgender and non-straight sexual preference are not individual differences that they need to be educated about. His argument about children is a "red herring" in that children aren't exposed to sex education till they are in lower highschool anyway.

Bernardi has (in the past) actively vilified homosexuality and has argued it's a mental illness that needs curing. That's why this is a sneaky attempt to covertly push his own agenda at the expense of bullied and vulnerable kids
