I guess they had to fill some space where they didn't mention that the most efficacious strategy for combating opiate addiction is decriminalization, and free medical treatment [which still costs taxpayers less than jail].
Decriminalization would make things worse. What they need to do 1. add mandatory treatment to the sentences/ probations of all offenders; 2. crack down against the overprescribing doctors and medical establishments 3; and stop letting the pharmaceutical companies produce all these opiate filled products by having tougher standards in the FDA and further regulating existing products.
They've got methadone to treat narcotic withdraw. People just want another reason to legalize Marijuana. Alcohol should probably be illegal, but it's too late for that. I'm tired of drug using people. And I mean illegal drugs and alcohol. People think that stuff is going to help with anxiety or their personality problems - are you going to be using the stuff all the time because treating anxiety like that makes it worse and you can't be drinking all the time to become more social because you'll then turn into an alcoholic. Drugs aren't the answer.
I should know. I've been using alcohol to put me to sleep for years now. It doesn't work - it screws up your REM sleep cycle. My sleep is sucking now since I'm not using it - I've been getting 3-4 hours a night. HOWEVER, I can't go back to it - I was popping heartburn meds left and right, my stomach was a mess and my anxiety was way up. I'm exercising more now, eating right and have more energy and my heartburn is gone almost completely. People have to get off of the stupid drugs. They will miss you up.

Are you saying you don't believe in the efficacy of medical cannabis? Because if you are truly a health care professional and you're not aware of how many people with cancer pain and nausea from chemo, or chronic seizures, or wasting diseases, or various other conditions are helped by cannabis then I wonder where you got your certification and how well educated you were. There is such a preponderance of research on how many of these conditions are helped by cannabis and with none of the dangerous side effects that many pharmaceutical alternatives have (like the addictiveness of opiates for pain relief, and how many people accidentally overdose on them every year), you really should be aware of this if you work in health care.

Excuse me, mam, I was a chemo nurse and I know a lot of the drugs now don't cause the nausea they used to and if the doctor warranted Marijuana use then they would order it. They also have nausea meds that work really well now too. My dad was on one of the newer chemo drugs and had no nausea and no hair loss. Most people just want the Marijuana to get high so don't put the same crappy blame about if I'm a nurse I should go along with it because I think your argument is a bunch of BS.

Many commonly ingested substances are also poisons. Water, for instance. And the brain creates it's own "intoxicants", which are in the same chemical family as the ones you call poison, and act the same way. We tried to abolish drugs, and it creates a black market that is often more harmful than the drug itself. We need to do whatever works, and that can be shown to work scientifically.

Do you smoke it too, Mr. AspE?

Yeah, because nobody ever take opioid pain killers to get high, they only ever take them like their doctor advises them to. That's why no one ever gets addicted to them, right?
You're very judgemental of your patients. I wouldn't ever want you to be responsible for my health. Luckily I'm not American so that will never happen. You are ill-informed about your own profession. That's very sad. If you expressed such an opinion about medical marijuana here you could never get a job as a nurse in Canada. We expect our health care professionals to be informed by actual medical science rather than personal opinion.

I looked this up - there are 2 drugs that are FDA approved for nausea from chemo drugs and they are part of the "Cannabinoid" family containing THC. Nabilone and Dronabinol are the names. I've included a couple of websites here so you can educate yourself. They probably would work for narcotics too, imagine that.

And you know what? I wouldn't want you as a patient, either. You sound like quite the complainer.

I don't smoke marijuana, but I think it should be legalized completely. I've been on many medications that caused horrible side effects, and were dangerous. It's possible that I could have used marijuana instead, but it's illegal.
Alcohol is much more harmful and it's legal. I could go out right now and get totally intoxicated legally, damaging my liver and possibly endangering others in the process.
I'm not sure why people care so much if other people get stoned on weed. I don't think it should be a problem, as long as it's done on their own time and not to excess.

I'm glad I prompted you to do some research on the subject. I hope you will do more and further educate yourself on the subject so you won't be so judgemental of your patients who are looking for compassionate care through the use of cannabis. Keep reading, that's the right idea!
