The Apathetic American
Paul J. Balles, Atlantic Free Press

cartamerican.jpg

April 27, 2007

Juan Cole tells the grieving American public, rightly, that "the Iraqis have two Virginia Tech-style attacks every single day."

Americans don't give a damn!

UNICEF estimated that the sanctions against Iraq resulted in the deaths of 500,000 Iraqi children under the age of 5. Madeleine Albright said "we think the price is worth it."

Americans don't give a damn!

John Damien says "Killing insurgents is easy and makes it feel like you are doing something, but it’s a trap."

Americans don't give a damn!

World Vision Canada reports that "more than two million Iraqi refugees are trapped in a cycle of poverty and fear."

Americans don't give a damn!

Evelyn Pringle wants "Americans to face the cold hard truth that nothing will be accomplished by allowing the daily carnage in Iraq to continue."

Americans don't give a damn!

An Iraqi Sunni politician says that insurgency groups should unite to "reap political rewards for inflicting heavy losses on U.S. troops."

Americans couldn’t care less!

Reuters reports that "Jordan and Syria begged the international community on Tuesday to help them shoulder the burden of some 2 million Iraqi refugees"

Americans couldn’t care less!

B'Tselem, The Israeli Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories reports that 927 Palestinian children have been killed since 2000.

Americans couldn’t care less!

"The pro-Israel lobby has been remarkably successful in suppressing criticism," writes George Soros.

Americans couldn’t care less!

The movie industry continues to vilify Arabs, according to Jack Shaheen.

Americans couldn’t care less!

"These days, nobody can defend Israel's actions in the occupied territories of Palestine, writes Diane Johnstone."Distraction rather than defense is the pro-Israel strategy."

Americans (other than AIPAC) don't give a damn!

What DO Americans care about?

* Plenty of on screen Rambo violence.

* Who gets voted out of American Idol.

* Why Don Imus called a women's basketball team "nappy-headed hos."

* Did Larry Birkhead father Anna Nicole Smith's baby?

* Why a deranged Korean shot up 32 students.

* Who's dancing with the Stars?

* Crime Scene Investigations.

* Will Britney Spears go into rehab again?

Will Americans ever give a damn about anything but meaningless trivia and American bloodbaths?

Its not mechanistically possible for American citizens to stop the war. The president has
a mere 28% support but untill his term is up he can keep the war going. The Democrats
won alot of seats in the last national election so its a slow process but certainly be an end to the war(US troops gone) by earily 2009.

I feel like this is true in regard to all the real people I meet, and I will never meet all the good people I hope to. They are all part of the fantasies I have.

When I was in journalism school, I learned that the single most important aspect of a news story isn't what happened. It's where it happened. In other words, if there was an earthquake in California where two people were killed and another one in Indonesia in which the death toll is 2,000, the California story would be front page news. The Indonesia earthquake, on the other hand, would probably be buried in the back page. even though more were killed.

It's amazing how desensitized we can get about events that happen outside of our own country. It's as if we don't see foreigners as being "one of us" or as human with the same ability to feel pain and sorrow.

Yes but all the more so when we are responsible for the massive bloodbath in Iraq. Nothing wrong in a bit of detatchment to a degree but far worse when its our big jobby that caused the mess and then for everyone to go oh well lets switch the channel and watch Britney Spears.

That where i come in and stick the puppys nose close to the naughty mess and say to the beast "your losing".

I knew you were losing and you knew you were losing as far back as 2004. I used to be called IraqiResistance ever since the month after the invasion on internet gaming sites and i got tons of abuse but after it became obvious that Amerikkka was getting asswhupped and when it became obvious just what raping torturing perverts your army is, well i found the cat calls and insults slowed to a stop.

It's not the americans themselves, it's the media narrowing their scope of thought until they feel powerless, then submerge themselves in thoughtless idiocy. From what I've seen, most Americans don't feel like they have any power to change things. And they really don't. Neither the Democrats nor the Republicans have the people in mind, and most Americans know this, and choose to bury their heads in the sand.

the reason they can`t change things is cause they don`T act if folks wantred changed the media woude jump on it. cause then it woude sell and that is the ultimate goal of any media selling papers or gettting viewers

Sadly, I no longer expect that of people. Americans? Every country is like that. Except for a few powerless activist groups, nobody gave a damn about the Congo Civil War that killed millions of Africans just a few years ago. Or the Rwanda genocide. Or the Darfur genocide. Or the destruction of Zimbabwe.
