Fort McMurray Disaster - Globe & Mail

The fire is the size of New York City and is still growing. People are still being evacuated. Fort McMurray is devastated.

Well, the Canadians are doing something right, as I understand no one has died directly due to the fire, despite it's horrifying expanse.

Only two people died in a car accident on a highway while fleeing the fire. The videos of the fire really look apocalyptic, and I'm surprised as well that no one died from the fire itself. I think sadly some pets had to be left behind in homes and most likely perished as there was only minutes to evacuate for those who weren't home and didn't have time to return to their homes before they fled.

Updates. Looks as if 85-90% f Fort McMurray is still standing but it will be at least two weeks before residents can return, because of damaged gas and power infrastructure, toxic fumes etc.
