IL Target store bathroom bombed... Sign of Protest?

I am concerned that all Christians will be lumped with Robert Dear, Eric Rudolph, WBC, and whoever did this--incidentally by the same people who tell people not to lump all Muslims with ISIS.

That said, such cowardly and ghastly attacks are for the most part condemned by both sides of this issue.

According to the police they do not think it is related to the bathroom policy for whatever that is worth. Besides terrorism there are always disgruntled employees, customers and people who get off on things going boom.

People have been flushing lit "Cherry-Bombs" down commodes for decades, "just for fun". Same for Alka-Selzer in a soda bottle.

Suddenly, every such incident is automatically an attack by homophobic, freedom-hating, terrorist, extremist, jihadists.

Maybe it was just a kid pulling the same prank as her mother and grandmother pulled before her.

When I was in high school back in the 1970's blowing up commodes, setting off smoke bombs, dumping everything from locker rooms into halls was a tradition on the last day of school.


That clip was mild compared to what went on in my school. The halls wrre completly covered with junk up to a foot deep.

Off Topic: The movie "Dazed and Confused" remains the best representation of the 1970's American High School experience in a movie or on TV I have seen. "That 70's Show" was a show set in the '70's for made for mellanial teens. It had the trappings of the '70's but not the feel.

Police have taken a 44-year old woman into custody as a 'person of interest".

I'd like to caution assigning blame without more information. While my gut tells me the incident is connected to the Target policy in some way, as Sagan once said, "I try not to think with my gut". It's also possible it was someone who has been subject to the policy backlash or some other non-obvious connection. Or, yes, it could be completely unconnected although given the age of the person that seems less likely. 44-year old women are not known to be a demographic that goes around dropping fireworks into commodes for fun. Not that that is what happened. It sounds more like a mentos/soda or drain-o/aluminum foil noisemaker "bomb", not that people haven't been arrested for those, too, or that they can't cause harm.

Any more word on the motive?

At this moment, it seems like just another act of vandalism by a random nutter. Not even the police are convinced that this is a "bathroom gender" issue.

It's the media that's making more of it than is actually warranted. They gotta sell that ad space!

During training while bored we'd make "mortars" from gatorade bottles (thick so get velocity when cap pops) and dry ice. >+<
(This is a group of soldiers so bored that ages 18-50 were doing "don't try this at home kids/hold my beer" moments.)

For what it is worth, 44 year olds, especially women do not usually do singleton vandal acts or "terror" unless you count keying their ex's car >_<.
And women of any age are not usually reading the Popular mechanics "bomb:how-to" issue

When have you ever seen a SINGLE/Lone 44 yr old nut for left or right do something newsworthy for a cause (exl murder/serial killers). 1 person chained to a tree or many? 1 person throwing pain on fur or in a group? one person harassing abortion clinic or many?

A bomb made of plastic bottle and minor damage? cracked the toilet? In empty bathroom. Seem like waste of time and plastic.

Notice they haven't leaked anything about their person of interest. Normally that is status quo. Wanna bet she doesn't fit the mold of bomber or activist and the only evidence they have is store footage catching her as person last leaving. Surely her prints are on some of the fragments if she was perp.

My money is on the perp being a disgruntled ex-employee, a shoplifter who got caught, a customer who felt she was treated badly at the store, or just some random nutter off the street.

Low-tech devices made of common materials don't require any special knowledge or training, and instructions to build them are practically everywhere on the Internet.

Why, I just read a few posts on a popular website describing how to build a soda-bottle bomb. If only I could remember which website that was ...
