They don't make economic sense,
several weather balloons can do the job of one weather satellite at a fraction of the cost for example.
It costs 300 million dollars to launch a satellite into space, once it is there it can never be repaired or upgraded.

Google is using balloons to beam wifi into remote areas, they don't use satellites to save money....but then why ever use satellites?
Facebook has developed a solar powered plane to do the same thing.
NASA itself uses balloons with solar panels and scientific equipment to do experiments and monitoring,
Things that satellites are known to do

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiwkHLM1Ipc.

GPS satellites are not geostationary, so you never know which GPS satellites you are using when you use a GPS unit. It could just be a bunch of balloons instead.

The same goes for satellite TV and radio. Geostationary satellites can be simulated by high altitude airships like Google is using.

There are also these things called noctilucent clouds which appear at a latitude of 50 degrees and higher, these clouds are 'highly reflective'; and block the frequency that GPS uses ,about 1.2gghz so if GPS satellites were real North England would experience choppy or non existent GPS.
These noctilucent clouds are at extremely high altitude so balloons would fly underneath.

People send photos of them into the BBC they are about one kilometre thick,so any GPS signal would have to go through 1km of reflective cloud before getting to earth

The physics of radio communications is not your specialty, is it?

Boats in the middle of oceans use shortwave radio which bounces off the ionosphere,no satellites are even claimed to be used.

During WW2 a GPS like system was created that used towers only.

The Allies had complete coverage of the Atlantic ocean using only seven towers. This system was called Loran.
A more accurate version was used in the Vietnam war and by the US coastguard for decades before GPS came into existence.

NASA's balloons have been used for about 30 years which is about the time satellite TV was made available.

The type of balloon they use has been in use since at least 1974, it is called a super-pressure balloon and can stay in the air for at least 100 days,in the same approximate location.
Each balloon can carry enough weight for a solar array and transmitter. 8000lbs or 3600kg

Totally esoteric I realize, but it is possible to measure frame dragging in the time offset of the signal sent by a GPS satellite because it is orbiting the Earth. At greater than 11,000 mph. The onboard clocks actually differ from ground based clocks by 38 microseconds per day.

But beyond that, you can go to sites like HeavensAbove and see what satellites will be moving overhead at a given time & even watch the ISS and Iridium flares. It's pretty cool and is only possible to predict such things if the objects actually are in orbit above the atmosphere. It's also possible - although not easy - to image them as they transit the moon.

I don't really trust things I see in the news, especially after seeing the kinds of things that blue-screen and green-screen and chromakey screens are capable of fabricating, but then again I don't really trust anyone or anything these days anyway. Regarding satellites, I am not going to make claim to their existence or non-existence, but instead describe how what are claimed to be satellite-images can be accomplished via other methods.

I used to think that, when I zoomed into a building or something that I was in using something like Google Earth-Maps, that I was viewing a high-detailed satellite-image of said building. How-ever, knowing what I know about computer-technology, I also know that it is absolutely possible to replicate or even simulate what appears like an image from a satellite, when all you really need to do is to pool all of your images together and compress or shrink them down to size so as to give the appearance that it was taken from a camera much further away when that particular camera may actually be non-existent.

Let me put the above-paragraph into clearer perspective: Camera-Footage for Street-View can start with Patrolling Vans, then as we get a bit higher into the atmosphere, you can pull it off with Helicoptors or Drones, and at higher altitudes, planes can be used, but after that, you no longer need to take any footage from any higher. Instead, you take the already existing images, collage them together then shrink them down to size to fit onto a screen. You rinse and repeat, keep doing the same re-compression technique, and voila images that you can say are from satellites when they may really just be a bunch of compression-composites put together to form an image from above the clouds.

Regarding NASA, I regard them as extremely inefficient in the use of the tax-payer dollars that they collect (gets into the billions each year), but it would make a lot of sense to me if most of it was really used for some sort of Black-Budget purpose (because I came up with various ideas that involved such methods of deceptions back when I wanted to destroy everybody and everything on the entire planet and as to how to pull such a thing off; this being only one out of the many methods that I had thought up during my past psychosis). Ultimately, before I take any particular position or come to any sort of final-conclusion, I would prefer to hear what the Remote-Viewers are able to perceive out of the Operations of NASA just to see if there are any additional hints that can be later confirmed as to how the money is actually being used or not.

For now, I remain skeptical of the idea that any particular thing does not exist when claimed by any source, considering how I used to believe that ghosts did not exist either (although I do not refer to such phenomenon as ghosts these days but more along the lines of an anomalous holographic-projection from some sort of electro-magnetic disturbance [hey, Compact-Discs are nothing but flat pieces of shiny plastic after all, and some laser-like glow from reflections through hologram-compatible storage-imprints beyond current levels of technology might account for "ghostly" experiences that some people report]). I guess I will keep my eyes peeled for Remote-Viewing releases on the Remote-Viewing of Satellites as the Target...

You mean the kind of things done with today technology. Prior to the 90s chroma key was not as convincing; which didn't prevent NASA to show pictures of space without the problems seen back then from chroma key.

A 1984 Hollywood major and big budget motion picture (With one of Hollywood best action scene); notice the unconvincing chroma key toward the end of the video.

A 70s NASA video about Skylab; No chroma key.

Hmmm. I wonder how they do satellite telephone and other associated devices?

In our back yard there was a part that didn't get watered. It showed on Google Earth. After I re-did the sprinklers a short while later the bare spot was seen covered by grass in Earth. Why would a clandestine entity do this (although Google HAS been spending a lot of money on balloons :? )?

I think getting GPS to be accurate within 10 feet (or centimeters on special equipment) would be harder for balloons, unless they could determine "their" exact position, at every instant, using stations on earth. :?:

EDIT: Changed wounder to wonder

Re:Skylab
The internal shots of zerog are filmed on an airplane that mimics zerogee by diving
The spacewalk footage is filmed in a giant swimming pool, the chroma key does look good though

Eden-I've seen pictures of satellites from earth but they are so blurry that they could be anything.

Balloons can replicate a bunch of non-geostationary satellites because no dishes have to be used, the GPS unit just needs a line of sight to the sky.
Satellite TV probably isn't based upon n balloons because it requires something better at staying still.

There is a technique called tropospheric scattering which bounces microwaves off the troposphere, it uses dishes to receive said microwaves, uses the same frequencies as a lot of satellite TV and requires precise angling of the dish.
So it's pretty much indistinguishable from using satellites.(for the person on the ground)

The EU is creating it's own gps system and is using towers built on mountains, these towers are called pseudolites because they replicate satellites so well ;)

Ban-dodger yes photo composites basically render any photograph useless at proving anything, the pictures of the whole earth are supposed to be composites too.

I just read today Google is partnering with another tech co. to provide faster and better intermet communication to your home. The article said that instead of wires it will be all wireless.

Didn't mention balloons but???

Probably balloons,

Another thing about satellites is their footprint:

Image

This broadcasting footprint is achieved with just one transmitter (or beam) but it has a shape that conforms to countries and borders, Italy for example. The footprint also conforms to the west coast of France and Portugal.

This shape could be achieved with several broadcasting stations on the ground easily, an irregular blob can be made up of several repeating circles.
For example, If you put two circles together you can make all kinds of irregular shapes.

It would also be much cheaper to build and maintain tropospheric broadcasting towers to fill this area than to launch a satellite.

Tropospheric scatter stations also broadcast at the same frequency as satellite TV!! !! !
It's called the ku band,

Check this out:
http://www.raytheon.com/capabilities/pr ... poscatter/

It says it broadcasts on the ku band on Raytheon's website,it also uses dishes that have to be angled correctly, just like satellite TV

You guys are aware that you can see satellites traversing the sky yourself, right? I myself have done it. With the right equipment anyone can see the shape of the satellites too, most notably the International Space Station.

That video was taken by hobbyists with consumer equipment. If you were to buy similar equipment then you could see stuff like this with your own eyes. Unless any of you can think of any planes or balloons shaped like that which can travel at 17,000 miles per hour in the atmosphere, I think this case is closed.

Note how science makes up ~1%, and NASA is only a tiny fraction of that, if you are going to run a conspiracy to earn money then make it be in medicine or defense, not science. The only way that faking space travel would be practical is if NASA were working alone in a conspiracy, independent of any government. If NASA were in a conspiracy with the government then they wouldn't need to trick the government into funding them and they could just be a secret organization that nobody knows about. It also should be noted that if NASA were willing to fake great achievements like the Moon landings then why haven't they done any more? The whole idea of a space travel conspiracy is just absurd, and I could point out flaws to it all day.

The ISS is another can of worms, I haven't done any decent research into it yet like I have with regular satellites.
My aim here was to show that everything satellites claim to do can be done on earth for less money,

Using troposphere scatter towers,dishes, balloons.

You say why don't NASA do anything else amazing but then offer the ISS as an example of something amazing they are doing.

What about GPS? In order for them to work they have to be able to know their position down to about a meter. In space that's quite easy because orbits are easy to predict with software down to such accuracy, but making a balloon that is able to keep it's position so precise despite wind? Yeah, good luck with that. If they didn't know their position to that accuracy then they couldn't track something with that much accuracy. It could be done with towers, but you would need a lot of them to do what just a few satellites could to because of their limited range. Troposphere scattering wouldn't work for that either unless the troposphere is a perfect polished mirror that doesn't interfere with the accuracy of GPS.

The reason satellites are used instead of towers is because it takes a lot of towers to do what few satellites can do, the reason satellites are used instead of balloons is because balloons get moved around by the wind in hard to predict ways, and the reason satellites are used instead of troposphere scattering is because that still has a limited range and it would take a lot of relay stations (including some on the oceans) to send messages across the ranges that satellites can. It is possible to get by without satellites, but they are the most economically and technologically feasible option for the applications they are used in.

slenkar wrote:

The ISS wasn't built by NASA, as the name suggests it was built by many nations working together and as of recently a commercial space agency (SpaceX) is sending stuff to it too. It's not NASA's achievement because most of it was done by other space agencies. This does bring up a burning question: if NASA is faking space travel then why can so many other space agencies exist including commercial ones? Space tourism and commercial satellite launches are becoming a thing, and between commercial space agencies and contractors of space agencies there are a lot of companies involved in space travel, for example Boeing was contracted to build the first stage of the Saturn V for NASA and now they are testing a suborbital space craft designed for space tourism.

The number of people that would have to be involved in such a conspiracy is absurd and impractical to the extreme, and on top of that I see no practical purpose for such a conspiracy other then maybe money, but there are much better ways of getting money then an international space travel conspiracy as I mentioned before. If there were other methods used instead of satellites, then why would they not just tell us that they are using that other stuff instead?

You do realise that "public" numbers can be simply "cooked" whilst keeping the real information limited to Insider-Access ? Furthermore, The Grace Commission Report of 1984 also shows the existence of something called a Black-Budget, and how absolutely none of the Income-Tax goes towards Services; none at all. Plenty of Evidence also exists for both Medical-Science and Military being used as Deceptive-Fronts/Insides.

Wow; I appreciate a good skeptic, but this isn't in the same league unless it's a troll.

Different frequencies of radio waves bounce or go through the atmosphere. Lower-frequency HF does sometimes bounce off the ionosphere, but VHF goes right through. We use VHF to talk with satellites. You can get a ham license and a little handheld and talk/listen to satellites yourself.

Anyway, balloons are cool too.
