I literally just turned on CNN and saw this. I was hoping someone else had heard more.

All CNN says is that people are trapped in a restaurant in Dhaka's diplomatic zone.

Bangladesh has been degenerating into Islamist violence towards religious minorities and secularists over the last couple years, it is very sad. ISIS and al-Qaeda claim to have a foothold in the country but the government says that it's just domestic extremists.

Ah, thanks Jacoby. That's the kind of detail I was hoping someone would know.

I know a lot of people are at work, so I'll just update on what CNN is saying now.

They had an eyewitness on via telephone and heard from the cafe owner, who escaped. The quality of CNN's feed is pretty bad. The best I was able to gather was that they think that foreigners frequent the cafe, so that may be why it was chosen. And the number estimate is now "20-30." A police officer was shot- I didn't hear if the officer was killed or what the circumstances were. CNNs feed is people in SWAT-looking gear milling about, but again, the quality is bad so it's hard to tell what's going on.

They're going to try again to talk to the eyewitness after they work on their phone connection.

ISIS is taking credit, they murdered 20 hostages while 13 were rescued by commando raid

Bangladesh seems to be quickly becoming a failed state

"Those who could recite a verse from the Quran were spared, others were tortured, said a rescued hostage of the Gulshan restaurant attack where at least two lawmen were killed.

"'The others were tortured by the gunmen,' said Rezaul Karim, father of Hasnat Karim who was held hostage inside Holey Artisan Bakery in the diplomatic zone for over 10 hours."

the caliphate needs to be glassed

you have to destroy the credibility of the movement or it will grow strong and stronger and stronger

IS is spreading virulently throughout the Muslim world, this is an ideological and religious movement bent on the destruction of Western Civilization and is just as big if not bigger of a threat than Soviet communism. We never fired a bullet at the Soviets, we didn't really want to fight cataclysmic war to end all wars but the same cannot be said for these Salafi jihadist savages who actively feel it is their duty to bring about the end times. The problem is that we have some influential Christian nutjobs in our country with very similar thinking so it is no surprise everything we do plays like it's out of the book Left Behind.

Some excellent charts and graphs of how many Islamic State attacks there have been around the world in just the last two years:

You don't hear about them all -- there is really one somewhere every few days.

You sometimes hear people on the left say that poverty drives terrorism. The Bangladesh attack is another example disproving that lie:

The Dhaka Islamic terrorists were from well-off families, had attended top private schools, and were university graduates.
