News story here

Great. Just great. This is our second connection with terrorism here my city in the past few months. We are a refugee-rich city and have taken in people from all over the world. Our largest refugee population are Bhutanese refugees, but probably our second largest would be Arabic people from various countries- Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan. After that, we take in a lot of Africans. Most of them start blending in as regular Americans within a few years. The Arabic women do not tend to keep wearing religious dress. The Arabic boys often join soccer teams in high school. This is not a place where anyone looks down on immigrants or refugees. Some of the African boys were forced to be soldiers. We're aware of that kind of thing, but we believe you get to start again here.

I have been thinking about why the NYC guy would be here since their family has that business in NY.

Most of the refugees, and also traditional immigrants who I have known, will travel back and forth to their countrymen's homes in other states, sort of like a time share. Many of the Bhutanese, for example, were resettled in PA, so a lot of them take vacations up there to visit people and buy from the Nepali-Bhutanese stores that their friends have set up. It could be that this guy was doing something similar. He may have had contacts in this area and rented the house as a place for him and others to stay. Patterson is a bad neighborhood, mixed race, mostly black. People mind their own business. No one would have questioned it if people other than that guy were going in and out of there.

As it says in the story, the FBI has already been here, so I'm sure they're all over this angle.

Correction: I didn't read the updated story closely enough. It says the parents were going to move here because the dad's brother lives here somewhere. But it doesn't say if they were going to sell the restaurant or what.
