Ok I want to be very clear, I don't mean this thread in any offense to the transgender community.

However,

Am I the only one that feels Manning is kind of stupid and borderline insane to what to be a woman in a male prison? What the absolute hell? This person is in prison, he or she deserves no gender, he or she doesn't deserve anything. If he or she wanted to be a women he or she should have not been criminal and then became transgender. I am all for it at that point but I think he or she would do better to keep any transgender urges to himself or herself right now. Prison is not a place to express yourself, I say we shave both male and female prisoners hair off. Females should be treated largely the same in my opinion exact maybe personal hygiene items which this individual doesn't need. I can't help but feel he is attention seeking, even if its your true self, I think he needs to realize he screwed up that freedom.

Also lol what a child, if I was the warden I say go ahead and die and see if I care. I mean seriously is Manning going to hold his or her breath next?

This will change.

The military now accepts trans soldiers.

Some of them will end up in prison.

The military prisons can't refuse to treat them.

Treat them?

Do they have a problem?

I am not against transgender people again to be clear but why does Manning have the right to be transgender in prison? Being transgender is not a right, its a privilege of freedom. Why should the prison pay for or even hear such a complaint? Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

Consider this for a minute and I think my point becomes a bit more clear. Prison rape is common occurrence and it should not happen, we should protect prisoners better that. However, if we look the other way when someone is being raped, why should we care if someone can't express themselves? Unless he is being abused I don't see a case which denying someone the freedom to express oneself is not abuse to me and is in fact the entire point of prison.

Yes, some will need access to hormones their bodies don't produce.

This is not about Manning.

This is about whether the federal prisons should provide transgender medical care or not.

The prison has refused.

You think it's OK to deny trans people needed medical care?

Not really,

I am asking why it is needed in the first place, the only medical care I would give prisoners is what they need. Isn't being the gender you want a luxury? Prosthetics are normally not considered medically needed by insurance but I can bet most people without a limb would like one. The point I am making is his life will continue regardless of what sex he is, prison should keep him alive, not give him nice amenities.

Gender identity disorder is a medical condition. It's not something people pick and choose to have. They don't decide one day they are a woman or a guy. They actually have a male or female brain but it doesn't match their body and since you can't change the gender in the brain, you can only change the body. It seems cruel to me to put a woman in a man's prison just because she has a mans body. I know about all the transphobia and the possibility of the inmate being beaten up for it if they come out and then demand medical treatment. But if they came out before the sentence and then still got placed in the prison for the gender they were born with while they were still transitioning, that still seems barbaric. They would have to be placed in the mental ward in prison to protect them.

...Apart from the question of Manning's fairly questionable " crime " (for the sentence she received) I quite disagree with your (implied) " torture/hurt all prisoners ! !! !! !! " argument (You and others') .
What happens to those hurt ex-offenders when they do get out ??? Oh , right , every sentence will be LWP I suppose .
Lotsa money for the prison/industrial complex that way ! !! !! !! !! !!
Fantasizing about " shaving off " (and more ???) all those prisoners' hair ? Gonna sell DVDs of it ?
After you w*nk about it first ?

I didn't mention torture, I mentioned not giving special treatments.

I don't really want to know what your implying here but you are very wrong if it is what I think it is.

okay this is a valid reply that isn't accusing me of getting off to torture so I'll reason with this. I can see the barbaric aspect of it in terms of forcing Manning to live with males but you can't exactly stick her in a female prison either unless she is fixed in my opinion. Maybe a middle ground here would be not to pay for treatment and not give special favors but maybe have a prison designated for transgender people. Maybe if they have an outside way to pay for everything then you could move them to what gender prison they finally represent.

I don't think she should be in prison at all but that's just me.

I don't mind whether he's a paraphiliac. I do mind that he sexualizes the disinterested venue. It's a he. The rest is none of my business. I am frankly annoyed that it causes so much awkwardness, that every conversation should need to be so prevaricated.

You've brought up a couple of different survival situations, one regarding his sissy play, another regarding his spying. (That's how it's formally regarded.) I read about danger, have put myself in danger, and encountered a line of discussion, where the risktaker asks whether it's really worth it, to endanger yourself for another person. Is it your fight.

He has gone out, on a limb, for you, to provide you with this information. Do you deserve it. Have we been grateful enough, as a society. Look at which side of this discussion was put in jail (aka, prison, caging, confinement torture. There are 50+ different names for it, so you lost the plot.) Is this respectful of the human misery.

Also, since when is the gay community so supportive of eachother. His costume was a another risk, in which he advocated an ungrateful people. They are catty, if not Bacchanalian.

There have been alternate accomodations, which may just be nicer.

But, I don't see how anyone's confinement is rehabilitative or repays some debt to me, in the way of literal damages. If the goal is to punish, there are quicker, worse things, to do to a person, which are technically cheaper.

If arbitrary punishments rid someone of their untrustworthy reputation, then why is a record kept, to begin with.

Just give the masochist what he wants. ftlog, give closure to the saga, and get on with your life.

"Sissy play"?

That sounds like hate speech to me. Sissy is a slur.

If you're an adult, type it into images.google

It's their word, not mine.

They're that 'M,' in the S&M -- probably a little too grateful, for the negativity.

(Since it was asked, about making a scene, in a prison.)

If you think someone like this can be ethical, tell him a secret.

I'm just saying that I won't take those risks.

There is a difference between sissy and transgender. Being a sissy means a man who likes to pretend to be a woman and dress up as one and he feels comfortable with his gender and his gender and sex both match. People who are trans are not pretending to be a woman and they are not roleplaying like sissies are. They gender and sex do not match so they are dressing the gender they are in their brain.

Call me a deadpan literalist, who doesn't want to participate, but not an ignorant person, since I know the historical background.

My choice is conscientious and knowledgeable.

This actually goes with the refugee story, because that Daniel Boone and Ree-bekah sort of couple, on the straight wedding cake, aren't entitled to the same safe space as you.

The definition has changed I quess. It used to be a pejoritive term to describe a person mostly males who are a coward or who always backs down from a fight.
