(clicky)missouri doubles down on the pupil to prison pipeline, charging juveniles with felonies for school infractions, needlessly ruining these children for life
what more proof do we need, that we live in the ultimate disposable culture which throws away human beings. for shame.

That's absolute insanity. What happens when one of their own kids gets in a scuffle? It's bound to happen.

it's like they are deliberately looking for any excuse to get rid of these kids, who, by the way, by and large are colored.

If you do not have the signature option turned on my signature is

We live in a society that is perfectionistic in its expectations and intolerant of what were previously considered to be normal and expectable distress and individual difference - Dr. Allen Frances Chairman of the DSM IV Task Force

Dr. Francis was presumably talking about pathologizing normal behaviours. Now we are making it a felony. Insanity, Hell yes

seems to me that 1] we're becoming a prison nation, which is a step towards becoming a prison planet.

The problem is with the schools themselves. The structure is no longer suited and they have turned into storage bays or prisons where "professionals" pretend they are doing something other than babysitting. I'm not sure how they expect anyone, even neurotypicals to learn in such a challenging environment. They are too big and allow no room for individualism.

Well, my experience is with the Canadian public school system, but I think these problems are shared in western cultures.

my experience with Canadian school students is that they seemed [back in the 70s when I was in school] much better grounded in the 3Rs than American students were.
