just imagine pot seeds that only Monsanto will let us have. there has to be a way around this.

There is, ban it again. Then neither Monsanto or any other company would be able to legally produce that poison.

All we need to know about Bayer ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayer ) and its parent corporation, IG Farben ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IG_Farben ). Nazi connections and selling HIV-tainted Factor VIII.

I assume there will be a growing medical market. Monsanto want to enter/control that market from the agricultural/extraction/quality control side. There will also be a future market for Psylobicin production in the treatment of brain disorders. Monsanto may be also eyeing mushroom production here as well.

For regulators at a national/cross border level Monsanto offers genetic security given their track record with GMO being secured within growing areas and not released. Both marijuana and LSD are scheduled/prohibited substances. Monsanto will be able to work with regulatory agencies to ensure secure production based on their current track record with GMO.

Figures that just as some states legalize it, the big corporations jump all over it. They won't get any more money from me, though; I've never used that junk and I never will.

if somebody made a nice pill I could take that didn't require a doctor's script, i'd be first in line.

It's not just weed seeds they want to control,but also food crops.Control the food and you control the world.They have went into developing countries and try to get the farmers to abandon the seeds they have saved for generations and encourage them to plant seeds that are hybrid or altered,then you can't save the seeds.You have to purchase them from the corporation.
The solution,save your own seeds from whatever you grow,veggies,weed,etc.
I'm an avid seed saver,when I buy a new variety I go with an open pollinated heirloom so that I can save the seeds and replant next year.I have a "seed bank in my freezer with varieties of veggies that I have maintained for years.They get better every year as they adapt to my garden.

On future propagation:

There are many thousands of growers with pet plants with proprietary medical or recreational characteristics. Monsanto will try pushing the regulation route where you have to PROVE your particular home grown strain doesn't hurt anyone AND fulfills it's description (to be able to legally sell it)...this will cost many many thousands of dollars and will remove many growers from the market and raise the price of weed.

But the bit about patented pollen blowing into the neighbor's field to illegally modify a crop won't be an issue in many cases because you can't grow sinsemilla in an outdoor fields....the flowers develop seeds instead and spoil the crop.

Of course there's a way around it-- legalize it for recreational use, on a federal level, and allow individuals to possess/grow it in the garden for personal use.

Which is why it's becoming pretty easy to get medical on the ballot (especially if it's oil, not the plant itself), but recreational is still way behind.
