I read about his passing today. A sad way to die, especially when his children were fighting with his wife just to be able to visit their father. :(

I always remembered Casey fondly as the voice of Shaggy in the Scooby Doo series. He will be missed. :(

I wonder what the deal was between him and his disparate family members?

I remember he blew a gasket over the song "Shannon" feeling he was "fooled" into listening to a love story not about people but about the songwriter's dead dog.

Well, there was some legal drama over his custody, I think, in the months leading up to his death. The world has lost a wonderful voice and radio personality.

"Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars!" - was a catch-phrase of his. It's one of my mantras, too. RIP to a wonderful talent. Much love.

He had a cool voice, it seems like that is neglected aspect of hosting now. So many people with grating voices, Kasem was smooth as butter.

This situation of the second wife possibly alienating the kids of a previous marriage has happened so many times with celebrities....Peter Falk was a perfect example.....why can't these people love their parent/spouse and try to do what is best for him, while he is alive?

why does the new spouse all too often put a barrier between the kids of the old spouse and herself?

That is exactly what I was trying to say....you marry someone with kids, even adult kids, it is never going to be a one-to-one relationship.

You do not get to 'own' someone.

If you (not 'you', Aunt Blabby) cannot comprehend that your loved one loves others as well, and will always have them in his/her heart, you need to find someone with no family at all.

And, it seems to me, that possessiveness is not synonymous with 'love'.

"The countdown rolls on...."
I remember those iconic words, uttered from the radio so many weekends..by the late great Casey Kasem. Beginning in 1982, and until he retired in 2009, his American Top 40 show..and its spinoffs..became a Sunday morning staple for this music aficionado. It was something to look forward to, an escape, such an integral part of my musical listening. There are times I even recorded parts of the show on my bedside boom box stereo, to replay anything I may have missed later on. Or just to hear again. I recall the long distance dedications ( of which I submitted one, to my first girlfriend), the extras, the flashbacks, the special year-end surveys. And his America's Top 10 TV program. Thanks to Casey, I became obsessed with getting my hands on Billboard magazine.

I can still hear the jingle..."the hits from coast to coast..."

"Keep your feet on the ground, and keep reaching for the stars"..that's how he wrapped up every show.
We know he's among the stars now.

ZOINKS! This is just sad. (Sigh)

Kasem may remain in the form of Shaggy, but nonetheless. He will be missed.
