Nat Hentoff, Journalist and Social Commentator, Dies at 91

All deaths are untimely, but this one is particularly untimely as we need his voice and his knowledge of and consistent defending of the first amendment more than ever. As bright as he was and no matter how many accolades he received he was a working class New Yorker through and through. Coming from the New York area it was my pleasure to read many of his columns in the Village Voice and elsewhere over the years. Oh, he angered me at times, that was because he was making me face my double standards.

I find a lot of his work is relevant in the current "culture war" between "SJWs" who want to silence not only speech the majority find offensive but things only a few find offensive and those who favour free speech in most circumstances. It's a shame most people will never know who he was.

I used to read him every week in the Voice. I think he had a huge readership.

I often agreed with him and almost always appreciated his reasoning.

He's certainly right about free speech.
