Given that the state of South Carolina has delayed much of its trial of Roof, and that U.S. prosecutors have succeeded in accomplishing a federal death warrant, it is more likely that Roof will be executed by the federal government, not the state government. As such, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit will likely soon consider an appeal by Roof's attorneys to avoid execution. Whether the Court of Appeals affirms or denies the warrant is irrelevant as the case will likely be considered (however briefly) by the U.S. Supreme Court (I predict that the Court will decline to involve itself in the case unless there are recognized errors by the subordinate courts). So, in other words, Roof's execution might take a few years to maybe several years to conclude.
Furthermore, even if for some odd reason the Federal Death Sentance gets nullified on appeal, there is still the state level case for him, in which case he'll get executed in Columbia, not Terre Haute. Still who ever gets t kill him, he will be killed.
