Whatever happened to free speech?

People don 't know what free speech is. American schools stopped teaching civics decades ago.

Good.

Schools are run by the government, which is run by corporate puppeteers.

The schools are always going to give kids wrong information until the government is under populist control.

And reports can be found about the left, Democrats, wanting to and/or trying to silence news outlets opposed to them.

To me, this quote from an editorial is applicable either way:
Original,

Quote:
And where does their crusade leave us? The left no longer wants to even try to win the debate; instead they want to silence their opponents. The establishment left’s fear of speech should be troubling to all.

"Mirror image"

It is an ideological war and one way to win at war is to disrupt your enemy's, or enemies' if you have several, communications.
Opposition news outlets are enemy communications.

And then something from the quote and mirror image quote catches my attention - both are 'establishment'.
Is there a common denominator connecting both the left and the right establishments?
Do both fear the non-establishment?
Could the right and the left, the Democrats and the Republicans, in fact fear the non-establishment more than they fear each other?
And silencing the non-establishment is what this is ultimately and actually about?

Yep.

Corporate power.

The Republican Party and the Democratic Party both have corporate sponsors. They can't say anything that will drive away their corporate sponsors. Thus, they often need to bury inconvenient truths.

Do you mean Bernie Sanders?

Yes.

You are missing a key piece of the puzzle.

The Democratic Party is not truly left-wing. They are afraid to adopt any type of leftism that will scare away the corporate sponsors.

Yes.

The poor have already been disenfranchised. Those who expose this are vilified.

Biased news isn't nearly as bad as YouTube channels that pretend to be the news.

I guess that means no more news.

According to the Trump inspired GOP the interpretation is that any news that shines a light on the rather abundant failures of Trump must be "fake news"

All news contains some bias, but some news organizations are words than others.

I certainly don't trust any news organization that receives corporate funding, because then everything will have a pro-corporate slant.

Crowdfunded news organizations have a pro-working class bias. This is good if you happen to be in said class.
