A latter day Orson Welles could do a TV version of "War of the Worlds", and have the president come on screen solemnly addressing the public to tell everyone in the wake of the Martian onslaught in New Jersey to flee NOW! Which would send millions of real refugees from the imaginary invasion to take to the highways in panic.

congress is gonna have to get up off its duff and legislate the edge off of this danger.

Well written poll deserves more votes. Maybe the topic is too confounding.

The resolution of the altered video isn't high enough, but they're post-rendering pre-recorded video, post-op is bound to have pixel edges or tell-tale signs of anti-aliasing, there's just no getting around it if one is overlaying one image on top of another. Same way you can tell a photoshopped image from a real one, you just have to balloon the image up and look for the pixelation or anti-aliasing between the layers. Point being, it'll be easy to spot a fake, convincing the numbnuts out there it's a fake is another matter.

the last sentence is key. people went apepoop when "war of the worlds" was broadcast DESPITE repeated listener advisories and commercial breaks. combine that with the systematic dumbing down of the populace, and what comes to mind is Jefferson's warning about how freedom and ignorance can't co-exist.

h.l. mencken had us sussed way back when, when he said "nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the american public." insufficient numbers of people will notice giveaway artifacts.
