i wonder to what extent it is possible to sleep through such things. would it be possible that carbon monoxide poisoning (or any other chemical poisoning) can harm you before you're fully woke?

i have my doubts.

couldn't get the video to work, but sweet story anyway. 8)

That's a sweet story. We need more stories like this.

It is possible to take action, while most NT people are still playing it by ear, in my experience -- in denial, still processing, or paralyzed with fear, through most of their everyday existence.

A friend of mine died from a fire started by a dropped cigarette after he had fallen asleep while drunk in his living room, and we could certainly blame his drunkenness as a factor there. However, my dad once pulled into a gas station late at night many years ago and discovered the attendant was asleep in a chair with a portable, open-flame space heater beside him...and then the man was extremely grateful to my dad for having saved his life by waking him and leading him outside to fresh air...and there is even an episode of "Andy Griffith" where Andy does the same for Gomer.
