In Norway there is a big research project going on about autism which includes approximately half of Norway’s population. The 600 000 children and teenager born from 1998-2007 are all included. They estimate that 6000 of them have an autism spectrum disorder diagnosis. All of their family members over three generations are also all included in the study. There are no ways you can decide either if you want to be included or not. The scientists have already got access to the information they need.
One of the aims with the study is to find out how big the risk is for a sibling or cousin to get autism if one of their sibling or cousin has it.
So I just wonder if you have any thoughts about it?

Much better then in America where studies with 10 people are touted as breakthroughs.

I was just watching a Q&A on Australian television about autism. The main research effort is looking at diagnosis, in particular now focusing on prospective parents, ultimately developing a test for "would be parents" which can give an indication of whether they are at risk of having an autistic child. Ironically the second area is based on the first child having repetitious behavior or ADHD or introversion as a guide for whether the sibling will develop autism (this resonates with the Norwegian study). All this points to a non-destructive method to reduce the prevalence of autism in society that avoids the "nasty" implications of genetic testing and abortion

Frankly I prefer they look at treating people who have autism rather than worry about unborn children
