This isn't necessary! If people by cigarettes with too much nicotine and then get addicted, they will just buy cigarettes with less nicotine next time!

Sounds like a win for the tobacco industry to me. Nicotine is addictive, even in small doses, all this means is people who are addicted will have to smoke more to get the same effect. Why not ban the tar, hydrogen cyanide, and arsenic fillers that make them 10x more toxic than the tobacco of a century ago?

This is exactly WHY they're doing it. It's to help Big Tobacco make up the profits they're losing to the E-cigarette industry. That's how lobbyists work. You can bet some bigwigs in the FDA just received big anonymous deposits to their Swiss bank accounts.

Smokers who stick with tobacco cigarettes will just smoke more of them to get the same effect.

Those who can't afford real tobacco smokes anymore have already switched to an E-cig. Many of those have dropped their nicotine level down to zero or near-zero, but still enjoy the sensation of smoking, along with the health benefits of not inhaling carcinogenic tars.

Next - new laws, sponsored by Big Tobacco will kick in next summer, making the Electronic Cigarette so highly taxed (therefore so expensive), that former smokers will be forced to revert to real cigarettes, because they'll be cheaper than the Electronic version.

What if we controlled it?

An easy way round it is use chewing tobacco strong enough so you just rest it in your cheek, and keep smoking.

Apparently the limits will also apply to electronic cigarettes and nicotine vaporizers.

But yeah all this will do is cause people to smoke more, twice as much smoke with less nicotine is probably worse...twice the second hand smoke to.

/\True,more chain smoking.I read an article on light cigs vrs full flavor and apparently people smoke more light cigs,and inhale them deeper than full flavor.So a light cig isn't any healthier and a low nic one won't be either.
You can buy whole leaf tobacco for a fraction of the cost of rolled or loose tobacco.No tax on it.I don't see how they can lower the nicotine in a whole tobacco leaf unless they start growing tobacco plants with low nicotine.Maybe the next GMO plant?
Next they will want to lower the alcohol percent in whiskey.
