I don't want to live in Haiti because that country is suffering from out-of-control capitalism ... which Donald Trump supports.

That was my real problem with his "s**thole" comment. It was hypocritical. America would be as bad a Haiti if Trump were given absolute power.

Of course Norway. But do I have a problem if Haitians coming to America to live? Of course not. But Trump and his fan club clearly do.

If those were my only two choices, definitely Norway. Haiti is lovely, and I believe if they can get rid of their corrupt government and build up their infrastructure they have enormous potential as a country. Oddly enough, I feel the same way about the U.S.A. right now.

However, fortunately for me, there are many other choices. I'm thinking Belize!

People ought to be more angry at why they are fleeing their own country.

Which would you rather be

a. Someone who pretends to welcome multiculturalism but strongly supports a racist state with racial colonies.
b. Someone who wants people to be able to live in their own countries without having them destroyed and not flooding to other people's when they have their countries destroyed by others and/or screw their own up.

It's a tough one...

the best of all worlds would be a Norwegian system in Haiti. spoken by one who is less able to handle cold weather these days. btw Haitians are tough and beautiful, ever resilient as the florida wildflowers that keep on blooming bright in the face of the stiff Atlantic breezes year in and out.

So our only choices are the U.S., Haiti, or Norway?

I would pick the Netherlands, Brazil, or Japan.

if you're expatriate-minded, there's about 70k Americans living down there now. I thought about it for a bit. health care is MUCH more affordable down there.

Good luck moving to Norway, unless you already live there.

NEWS ANALYSIS: The Norwegian government is about to make it much tougher for many foreign nationals to move to Norway and settle down in the country. Newspaper VG reported on Tuesday that a proposal sent out to hearing this week would extend the qualifying period for permanent residence permission to five years, nearly doubling the amount of time that effectively puts a newcomer on probation. At a time when Norway has sought global talent and likes to portray an international image, it’s questionable whether the government realizes what it’s doing.

The rule is likely to hit people coming from outside the EU and European Economic Area (EEA) hardest, for example those from the US and Canada, Asia, Africa and South America. Residents of EU and EEA countries including Norway can more freely move among them, while all those coming from elsewhere face a far more complicated process.

I have happy plans involving expat retirement someplace sunny with lower healthcare costs.

I wish I could do likewise. too many things holding me down and back. need more income to start.
