There has been a "Toynbeeist" backlash against Professor Chris Stringer's now famous "Out of Africa theory" now for the last 2 decades emanating primarily out of China/Japan and in Europe. China in particular is heavily influenced by nationalist ideology that they (Chinese people) could only have originated in China.

Toynbeeism is the philosophy that cultural advancement occurred in the northern hemisphere due to environmental conditions that selected for high IQ (among it's modern adherents include Margaret Thatcher and even Singapore's Lee Kwan Yu)

This current discovery is being used to question the rise of Austrolapithicus originating in East Africa as suggested by Richard Leakey back in the 1970s. By doing so they (German archaeology) can peddle an alternate theory that European man could have evolved outside of Africa.
