This is about to get entertaining, I'm sure.

Hopefully what comes of it is some sort of sane negotiations and agreements between political parties, and the end result is something that works for the vast majority of American citizens.

Another AMAZING affect would be if it was *actually* a shutdown of the White House administration, including all Twitter accounts.. a shutdown of that sort would actually be good for Americans & the world. IMO, anyways.

This whole thing is so Fox newsy & hilarious. It's almost as if I should expect to hear people shouting "Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!" while I'm reading these articles.

The government just shut down. What happens next?

Inside the frantic 24 hours that led to a shutdown Chuck Schumer and Donald Trump chatted over cheeseburgers, and sena

For the second time in five years, the federal government has failed to do its most basic job requirement. Last time at least there was some ideological differences this time most agree to keep the dreamers here but this happened anyway. This is purely about the view that making any deal with the other team is equivalent to completely selling out, completely caving.

Whose fault? We can blame this and that and not be incorrect but we elected these people so this lies with us as a whole. There are forces pushing us to be divided for sure the oligarchs, talk radio, cable news etc etc but we fell for it.

This time there does not too much outward worry about it, the government is not really "shut down" essential things still are still happening and either today or in a few weeks, they will cobble together something just like they have in the past and we will go on to the next thing. But what if this goes on month after month? I can not honestly say that scenario is not plausible. Where does the money to pay benefits and the military come from, then what?

A week ago there was a false nuclear attack alarm in Hawaii, it did not go well. What if it was real? It does not have to be a nuke attack it could be a natural disaster like the "big one" earthquake. Do you have confidence the government will be minimally competent as its citizens civilized? I do not at all.

We have pulled out of a lot worse than this government "shut down", and compared to Haiti or Syria America is heaven. Because we have pulled out of horrors in the past and other countries are a lot worse does not make our self-inflicted situation acceptable nor does it mean we will survive this and become stronger.

it may be apocrypha, but i remember reading something about australia firing its entire parliament the last time they had a shutdown.

it was before an election i think, but i certainly can't see such a thing happening here.

Honestly it wouldn't register with the average Aussie that Parliament had shutdown. Yes it would be filmed as there is a 24hr Parliament TV, I think they just leave the camera rolling even when nobody is there
