Here is what I find passing strange:
A man's home is his castle... if that man responds to strangers at the door by shooting them. This applies to the stranger who just wrecked their car and needs to call a tow truck, the high school aged stranger who is walking home a little tiddly and accidentally goes to the identical house next to his own, the young woman who walked away from an abusive date and lost her cell phone, etc.
That's all fine and dandy, dude was just standing his ground, etc. (And I'm sure he was thinking of the children. Right before he blew them away.)
But if that man responds to strangers along the lines of Matthew 25 (Mt. 25:35-40, New International Version (NIV)), as follows:
35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,
36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?
38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?
39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
Well, then, we'll take that dude's house away. And we call ourselves a "Christian nation", and lack even the decency to blush.
