Acid Attack Victims, Mentally Disabled To Get Quota In Central Govt Jobs

In view of the passing of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016, people with disabilities including autism, mental illnesses, intellectual disabilities and victims of acid attacks will now get quota in central government jobs, an official order said.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) recently wrote to all central government departments to ensure that 1 percent of each posts be reserved for persons suffering from blindness and low vision, deafness and hard of hearing, locomotor disabilities, muscular dystrophy and acid attack victims. In addition, one percent of posts would also be reserved for people suffering from mental illnesses, autism, intellectual disabilities and specific learning disabilities
Meanwhile, 4 percent of the total number of vacancies in groups A, B and C will be reserved for people with benchmark disabilities in direct recruitments. Since 2005, only 3 percent of the total posts had been reserved for people with disabilities. A person would be considered to have a benchmark disability when he or she suffers from 40 percent or more of a specific disability.
